Store Cattle Sale Report 3rd August

A Total entry of 369 Store and Breeding Cattle were on offer seeing a very strong trade for all types again.

Breeding Section
There was a shortage of breeding cattle with an Aberdeen Angus heifer with a British Blue bull calf at foot, for Mary Cawser of Sudbury, exchanging hands for £1420 with a Pedigree Stock Bull from Philip Nixon of Timbersbrook, at 88 months old, being bid for keenly and exchanging hands for £2080.

Young Bulls
In the young bull’s section, the top price of the day was £1470 for a 25-month-old Aberdeen Angus bull form Brode Hall Farm Partnership of Macclesfield, with a bunch of three fifteen-month-old Aberdeen Angus bulls, from the same vendor at £1110.

Nine-month-old Shorthorn bulls, from J & R Potts of Alderley, were well sold at £840.

Steers
There were 157 Steers on offer with a top price of the day being £1685 for a pair of 28-month-old Limousins from George & Margaret Hicklin & Family of Onecote, with other Limousins up to £1455 at 25 months old, from the same vendor and £1410 for 20-month-old Limousins from David Naylor of Glossop. A single Aberdeen Angus steer, from Brode Hall Farm Partnership of Macclesfield, at 29 months of age, achieved £1680 with a 26-month-old Aberdeen Angus steer, from Brian Wainwright of Meerbrook, at £1530 and a 28-month-old Aberdeen Angus, from Holmes Bros of Loscoe, at £1485. A bunch of four 19-month-old Aberdeen Angus steers, from J Greatbatch of Wetley Rocks, were well sold at £1460 with three 24-month-old Aberdeen Angus, from Glyn Redfern of Onecote, at £1445.

A pair of 28-month-old Hereford steers were well sold, from Eddie Simpson of Winkhill, at £1610 with a pair from Peter Mitchell of Fradswell, at 22 months of age, at £1505 and a single 21-month-old Hereford, from J & W Knight of Horton, at £1470.

A longhorn steer, at 26 months of age, from Messrs Taberner of Anslow, realised £1480 with a bunch of three Holsteins, at 25 months of age, from D & D Gould of Waterhouses, at £1390 and Friesians at £1290 for a bunch of four, at 23-month-old, from the same vendor.

Blonde steers from Peter Mitchell of Fradswell, at 27 months old, sold for £1280 with Shorthorns at 17 months of age to £1175 for Mr Thornicroft of Macclesfield and Stabilsers from James Forrester of Tean, at 29 months old, up to £1155.

A Simmental 11-month-old steer, from S Wardle of Buxton, was bid for keenly at £1145, with a pair of Aberdeen Angus steers at 7 months of age, from Howard Heath of Cheadle, at £965.

The overall average for steers was a pleasing £1117.

 

Heifers
There were 193 heifers on offer selling up to £1640 for a single 28-month-old Limousin from George & Margaret Hicklin & Family of Onecote, with a pair of 28-month-old heifers from the same vendor at £1580 and a 26-month-old Limousin, from Holme Bros of Loscoe, at £1470.

Simmental heifers from John Harper of Ipstones Edge, at 28 months old, were well sold at £1550 with British Blue heifers, from John Carr of Cheddleton, at 28 months, up to £1460 with others of a similar age at £1450.

A single 31-month-old British Blue heifer from Alcock Bros of Ford, sold for £1450 with Hereford heifers topping at £1310, for a 24-month-old beast, from Messrs Knight of Horton and Aberdeen Angus at 23 months of age, from Rowlinsons of Gawsworth, realising £1310 also. A 21-month-old Aberdeen Angus heifer, from P J Harrison of Priestcliffe sold for £1300 with a 15 month old Charolais from Messrs Frith of Thorpe at £1245.

Younger cattle sold up to £950, for a pair of 14-month-old Limousins from Ian Mardling of Hilderstone, with the average for heifers being £1027 per head.
