Dairies saw a superb trade with an overall average of £2178
Best lambs topped at 399p/kg with the overall average affected by smaller leaner sorts at 337p/kg. Ewes sold to £220/head
Calves still in demand with the heifers topping the bulls this week. A British Blue heifer topped at £720 with a British Blue bull coming in at £705
More Barrens needed to meet demand, top price today was 277p/kg and the top headage price of the day was £2136.75

A sharp trade in the Barrens saw a top price of 277p/kg for a Hereford cow weighing 520kg for R A Lomas & Partners of Aldwark.
A Friesian cow weighing 620kg sold well to top at 269p/kg, a gross of £1667.80 and was closely followed by another Friesian weighing 770kg which sold to 265p/kg to gross £2040.50, both for J & W Knight of Horton.

Overall average for barrens was a touch up on last week at 228.97p.
CLEAN CATTLE
J & J Housley of Grindon had a pair of Hereford steers, 24 – 26 months old, selling to 310p/kg and 299p/kg weighing 450kg and 630kg to gross £1395 and £1883.70.
A dairy Shorthorn heifer sold to 260p/kg weighing 395kg to gross £1027.
Overall average for clean cattle was 291.91p/kg.

Similar numbers to last week and a very good show of pigs on offer. Fats to 236p for Robert Scragg, Freehay. Sows to 76p for Steve Bailey, Knypersely. Overall gilts 200p-210p, boars 165-180p.
Porkers are very much in demand with hog roast season in full swing and not enough to meet demand. Topping at 236p or £155.76 for R Scragg who had others to 227p.
Cutters sold to 207p for J&B Fentem who had others to 199p, 198p. R Scragg to 199p.
Bacon pigs sold to 211p for Mr Banham, Bromsgrove for a cracking pair of gilts, who had others to 200p, 199p. Massie Farms, Stafford to 208px3, 206p x3, 205p, 203p x2. J&B Fentem, Parwich to 202p x3.
Heavies sold to 193p or £208.44 for P Hine, Meerbrook. Mr Banham sold hoggs to 170p.
Sows to 76p for S Bailey and feeding sows to 50p and 38p.

A superb trade for milkers saw a good proportion of the entry over £2000, topping at £2820 for a heifer from the Wayne family of Ible who also had a second heifer to £2740.
Stuart Greenall of Tansley saw two of his heifers reach £2720 and £2700.
The entire entry averaged an excellent £2178.

Best lambs very well bid for, topping at 399p/kg from Frank Heath and numerous other pens at 370p and better.
Heavy lambs in demand, topping at £196.10 and plenty at £170/head and better.
Overall average at 337p/kg or £143/head but a lot of light, lean lambs forward which are harder to sell.
