Breeding Sheep Sale Report – 19th July 2025

REPORT OF STORE AND BREEDING SHEEP SALE

Saturday 19th July 2025

A good entry of 412 sheep forward for the first of our early breeding sales. Despite much talk about the lack of grass, there was an excellent demand for all sorts forward and many more could have been sold.

Starting the day was the MV section, which included a small number of Rams. These sold to a top of £400 for a Dutch Spotted shearling from Sutton Manor Spotties. Dutch Spotted ram lambs sold to a top of £380 form J Clamp.

MV accredited Ewes saw very good demand, topping at £370 for an excellent pen of Border Leicester crop shearlings from Kirkham & Bourne, who sold others at £350/head. Blue Texel shearlings sold to £300 and £260 from CS & FA Burgess and older Suffolk Ewes sold to £230.

In the commercial section, trade remained brisk. Best Texel shearlings sold to £250 from E Morten & Sons, who sold numerous pens at £230 – £240. Texel Mules sold to £220 from TJ Burke and Suffolks sold to £250 from Ian Gregory. The entry of 341 shearling ewes averaged £219/head, which demonstrates the strength of trade.

Dorset ewe lambs sold very well to £205/head from Mary Rowlinson and aged Dorset ewes sold to £202/head from K Stuart & Sons, Oxspring.

Overall, a very pleasing and entries are now invited for the next sale on 16th August.
