Store & Breeding Sheep Sale Report 4th October

A total entry of 8,307 Store Lambs and Breeding Sheep
A very pleasing entry with buyers and vendors in attendance from a wide area.

Store Lambs
There were 6,099 store lambs with a total clearance to average £100.53 which did include a number of smaller lambs which reduced the average.

Top price of the day was £142 for Suffolk ewe lambs from P & M Hayward & Son of Chapel en le Frith with another pen of Suffolk from A & A Spooner of Macclesfield Forest achieving £140.

The average for Suffolks was £113.34.

Texel lambs topped at £139 for V M Hanley of Stockport and P Kirkham & I C Bourne of Werrington.

Breeding Sheep

Ewe Lambs (896) – Average £123.74
A smaller entry of ewe lambs this week after the show and sale a fortnight ago seeing Texels topping the day for N Richardson of Longnor at £420 and £370 with other pens to £158 and £157 for L R & M Lowe of Buxton and J B Rowlinson & Son of Ramshorn had pens to £156, £155, £154 and £152.

Suffolk sold to £144 and £142 for Dunstall Estate.

A pen of Mule sold to £136 for EJ & LE Williams of Combs with a pen of Zwartble to £130 for A Porter of Cauldon Lowe.

Blue Texel sold to £127 for D R Flower & Son of Alstonefield.

Shearlings (825) – Average £192.67
An increased entry compared to the sale a fortnight ago with an increase in the averages also.

Texels topped at £275 for E Morten & Sons of Barmoor Clough who had other pens to £255, £245 (twice), R Gibson of Wincle had a pen of Texels to £250.

Mules sold to £255 for P H Williams of Tean, £250 for T & J M White of Sheffield and £240 for M Riley of Newtown.

Cheviot sold to £250 for an Ipstones vendor with Suffolks to £245 for A E Neachell & Son of Walsall who also had pens of Charollais to £240 (twice).

Ewes (487) – Average £107.79
Ewes topped at £202 today for a pen of 4T-FM Texels for J Naylor of Hulme End, other pens of 3 crop Texels sold to £195 for G J Bailey of Weston and GH & M Torr of Bradnop had a pen of 1 crop Texels to £178 with R Gibson of Wincle achieving £175 for a pen of 2 crop Texels.

Cheviot ewes sold to £150 for M & D Doody of Solihull.

K Hill of Quarnford had BM Mule ewes to £138, GJ Bailey of Weston had FM Mules to £135.

A pen of FM Suffolk ewes sold to £135 for G J Bailey of Weston.
