Well what a day! There was not a single spare space in the dairy shed on Tuesday with an entry of 35 commercial cows in addition to the herd on offer.
Sincere thanks to all of the staff who helped pull it together enabling us to achieve a really successful day.
The dairy ring was packed with buyers with trade setting off at an electric pace for the commercial entry with 14 of the 33 entered breaking the £2000 barrier.
Topping the day at £2520 twice over were the Easom family from Oakerthorpe with two lovely cows. The first a second calver giving 35kg was clinched by Messrs Bennett of Stoke on Tern with a third calver giving 52kg heading to Messrs Swindell of Chelmorton. The Easoms saw another of their three second calvers reach £2440, £2400 and £2140.
Heifers topped at £2510 from Messrs Johnson of Longnor with two others from the same home making £2500 and £2500. All of the commercial milkers averaged an amazing £1850.
The herd sale of behalf of Messrs Plant was a very reluctant one however the turnout and support from buyers both local and from further afield was very much appreciated by the family and was testament to the respect they have within farming circles.
With credit going to Louise Plant and her team, the cows looked well and their efforts were justly rewarded with trade setting off at a flying pace which continued to the end. Topping the day was a tremendous Shorthorn second calver at £2180. Calved in June she was giving 33.8kg and went to Messrs Higton.
Close behind at £2100 was a May calved cow giving over 46kg who was clinched by J Bayley of Nuneaton.
Many more were in that £1700-£2000 bracket with all the milkers averaging a superb £1366.
The next herd sale is the Inkersall Dispersal on Thursday 9th September (See Advert Below) where live on-line bidding will be available. For registration visit our website at www.leekauctions.co.uk
