There were 351 store and breeding cattle on offer with excellent trade for all sections.
Breeding Section
There was a shortage of good quality cows with calves at foot with the top price being £1410 paid for a Hereford cow with a Hereford steer calf at foot from Mr Keith Parker of Hamstall Ridware, with the same vendor selling a Saler cow with a Hereford male calf at foot for £1240.
An In-calf Hereford heifer due to the British Blue from Bill Waters of Upper Hulme exchanged hands for £1040.
A 4 year old Hereford breeding bull from Mrs M Beswick of Fairfield exchanged hands for £1050.
Young Bulls
There was a small entry of young bulls with a pair of 8 month old Herefords from John Maltby of Matlock at £650 and a pair of 17 month old Herefords from R Hall & Sons of Croxden at £970.
Steers
In the steer section there were 152 on offer with an excellent price being achieved for a strong 25 month old Fleckveih from R Hall & Sons of Croxden which exchanged hands for £1575.
Limousin steers from Malcolm Ollerenshaw at 23 months of age sold up to £1310 with a 22 month old Limousin from R Hall & Sons at £1275 and a bunch of 4, 21 month old Limousin from Peter Richardson of Ipstones at £1230.
F Potter & Sons of Yeaveley received £1140 for a pair of 16 month old Limousins. Hereford steers topped at £1300 for a 27 month old beast again from R Hall & Sons with another pair of 22 and 26 month old Hereford from Glyn Redfern at £1090.
Angus steers from Malcolm Ollerenshaw sold up to £1255 for 22 month old cattle with a 27 month old Angus steer from D H Jones & Sons of Holmes Chapel at £1215 and another bunch of 26 month old Angus from the same vendor at £1195. G J Moss & Sons of Buglawton sold a 32 month old Angus for £1185.
Simmental steers at 22 months of age from M Hassell of Crewe topped at £1070 with another bunch of 19 month old Simmentals at £1000 from Ashbourne Agricultural of Sandybrook.
Younger steers sold up to £1010 for a bunch of 3, 9 month old Limousins from Sam Hudson & Family of Ilam with a bunch of 6, 10 month old Limousins from Robert Flower at £1000, a bunch of 3, 9 month old Limousins from Sam Hudson at £980 and 11 month old Angus at £900 from A E Allcock of Waterhouses. A pair of Blonde steers from Tom James of Eccleshall were well sold at £895 with a Shorthorn, 11 month old steer from J H Thornhill of Lime Park at £880.
Overall average achieved for steers was an excellent £854.34.
Heifers
There were 167 heifers on offer with again some excellent prices being achieved with a pair of 20 month old Charolais from Ross Worthington of Hope Valley at £1135 and a bunch of 4, 15 month old Limousins from F Potter & Sons of Yeaveley at £1125 with another bunch of 3 from the same vendor at £1105 at similar age and £1090 for a pair of 18 month old from Messrs Seabridge of Barlaston.A 21 month old Simmental heifer from Messrs Brown of Rangemore sold for £1065 with 4 biggish British Blue heifers from Joel Pudsey of Quarnford at 20 months of age at £1040 and younger cattle selling up to £890 for a bunch of 4, 11 month old Heifers from Jeff Turner of Okeover with a 10 month old British Blue heifer from Jenny Dakin of Rushup Edge at £850.
Overall average achieved for heifers was £776.67.
