Thank you to the Derbyshire Texel Club, the Central Beltex Club and the Dutch Spotted Sheep Society for choosing to host their sale with us at Leek Auctions on Friday. There was a tremendous turn out for all breeds and plenty of trade too!
Pedigree Texel’s
A strong entry of 54 Texel’s including sheep from well renown flocks, it attracted a large crowd of onlookers and purchasers. Kindly judged by Andrew Leason of Ilam, he awarded the Overall Champion to Sportsman’s Ivanhoe, a ram lamb shown by Boden & Davies which went on to top the day at 1600gns. Reserve Champion was awarded to a superb ewe lamb shown by Mike Turner from his Okehall flock, which sold for 800gns.
Another ram lamb ‘Mellor Vale India’ from Charlie Boden of Stockport sold for 1300gns and ram lamb ‘Sportsmans Image’ from the same home for 1080gns. Lot 49, Okehall Iceball from Mike Turner sold for 800gns. Lot 43 from Eamon Vaughn of Newcastle realised 750gns who sold another for 620gns, and a Ram Lamb shown by Ben Vernon, Marston Montgomery sold for 620gns.
Aged Rams sold to 780gns for ‘Caron Flash of Class’ shown by David Hind of Newthorpe.
Shearling ewes topped the sale at 920gns for the ‘Sportsmans’ flock who also sold others at 810gns, 680gns, 620gns and 550gns.
Pedigree Dutch Spotted
A first for us at Leek having the privilege to host a show & sale on behalf of the Dutch Spotted Sheep Society and there was an excellent show, kindly judged by Charlie Boden, with 78 catalogued entries.
Overall Champion was awarded to ‘Back Tor High Hopes’, a shearling ewe shown by Jack & Steph Simpson of the ‘Back Tor’ flock which went on the top the breed at a price of 1180gns. They were also awarded Reserve Champion with ‘Back Tor Hot Stuff’, a shearling ram which sold for 680gns. The Simpsons also sold a shearling ewe ‘Back Tor Hattie’ for 820gns and ‘Back Tor Hashtag’ for 600gns.
First prize in the Ewe Lamb Class & Reserve Female Champion, ‘Fachwen Immy’ sold well for 1120gns from A Breese, Tregynon who also sold another ewe lamb ‘Fachwen Iliana’ for 740gns. Other ewe lambs sold to 800gns for ‘Dustland Illinois’ from C Harding, Tattenhall, 650gns for ‘Sutton Manor Iceberg Ahead’ from Emma Webster of Sutton on the Hill and 560gns and 500gns for others from the same home.
Shearlings rams sold up to 680gns twice, for ‘Dovedale Holy Smoke’ from Lucy Miller, Ramshorn and also the reserve champion from the Simpson family. Jack & Steph Simpson sold another Shearling ram ‘Back Tor Harry’ for 550gns.
Aged rams sold up to 600gns for ‘Shebb Gregory’ from Zoe Chadwick, Bottomhouse.
Pedigree Beltex
A smaller entry compared to the other breeds, but no shortage of quality on offer. The Show was kindly judged by Kane Clamp of Ashbourne.
Overall Champion was awarded to lot 216, ‘Boothlow Kumquat’, a shearling ewe shown by Tom & Jack Belfield, Sheen which went on to sell for 600gns. However, the top price of 1200gns, was for lot 209, a shearling ram ‘Boothlow Kick Ass’ which came second in its class. The Belfield family also sold other rams – ‘Boothlow Kamikaze’ for 1000gns, ‘Boothlow Kickabout’ for 900gns, ‘Boothlow Knockout’ for 600gns and ‘Boothlow Kaboom’ for 550gns.
Jack & Steph Simpson sold a shearling ram for 500gns, with other shearling ewes to 420gns.
A ram lamb shown by Jack Darlington of Chellaston called ‘JD’s Kidnap’ sold for 400gns.
