A quieter Tuesday following the Easter Bank Holiday weekend, but an excellent trade was seen in the sheep shed, with a seasonal entry forward, spring lambs sold up to 420p/kg and hogget’s to 353p/kg. A fast trade for cull sheep with the entry averaging over £100/head.
A strong trade again for barren cattle with top prices of 166p/kg for an Angus cow with black & white’s to 158p/kg, and clean cattle to 200p/kg.
A buoyant trade for dairies with the entry topping at £1980 and £1900 for two fresh heifers, with cows to £1890 and the special entry of in-calf heifers and youngstock selling very well.
Calves continue from strength to strength with more about this Tuesday, and selling to £412 for Blue bulls and heifers to £395.
Pigs were a little less, and not the best quality type in abundance with a top of 129p/kg for lightweights and bacon pigs to 122p/kg.

A more buoyant trade for milkers than on previous weeks saw a pretty 27kg heifer from Andrew Mills of Leicester reach £1980 with others from the same home to £1900.
Cows topped at £1890 for a second calver from Adrian Barber of Gnosall, he also had two others to £1810 and £1740.
The special entry of In-calf Heifers and Youngstock from Reading and Kirby of Lechlade, Gloucester met a very swift trade which saw off-lying In-calf heifers to £1660, 14 month old heifers to £1080 and 8 month old heifers to £690. The entire entry of 75 averaged a superb £1032.

A steadier trade for pigs this Tuesday, with a lack of real quality overall. Pork pigs sold up to 129p/kg for a 72kg pig from D Martin, Whittington, with a pair of 65kg pigs at 114p/kg for A Worth, Marton.
Cutting pigs topped at 116p/kg for a trio of 82kg pigs from J & B Fentem, who also sold 84kg pigs at 113p/kg.
Bacon pigs sold to 122p/kg for 91kg pigs from J & B Fentem, who sold other cutters at 120p/kg, 118p/kg and 116p/kg. Bernard Minshull had bacon pigs up to 118p/kg for 95kg pigs and 112p/kg for a pair of 97kg pigs.
Heavy pigs sold up to 101p/kg for 106kg pigs from S Bailey, Biddulph, with a 105kg pig at 97p/kg from Chris Hine.
A pen of 8, 25kg weaners sold at £48/head from F Sharpley & Sons, Twemlow.
