BUTCHERS LAMBS (921);
A reduced entry selling on a slightly steadier trade, in line with the previous day’s trading. The average at 225p/kg is 10p back in the week, but significantly in front of many other markets today, which is pleasing to note.

Best sorts still very well bid for, topping at 270p/kg for handy weights, 266p/kg for standard weights and 256p/kg for heavy weights, generally handy weight lambs saw the most competitive bidding, with 42kg and above meeting a steadier trade, except for the very best sorts. Top headage at £132.

265p 37kg K W Twemlow & Co, Swinscoe

CULL SHEEP (421);
A bumper entry saw a solid trade, but not as feisty as we have been used to. Best ewes from Martin Lancaster selling to £170/head, with heavy Continental ewes generally £125-£140.

More hill bred sheep in the entry today, all finding their level but bringing the overall average back to £78.81, the first time below £80/head for a very long time!

A reflection of the sheep forward, and a slightly steadier enquiry.

Less numbers about and more buyers at ringside lead to an excellent trade throughout.
