A busy Tuesday incorporating the monthly Pedigree sale which saw a blistering trade from start to finish. 21 milkers over £2000 to top at £2660.
Lambs and cull sheep continue to sell at a pace with the average of 276p/kg SQQ to top at 331p/kg and ewes to £176.
Barrens sold up to 178p/kg or £1237.10 with clean cattle up to 228p/kg.
An improvement in prices for pigs this week, with the best handy weights to 118p/kg.
Calves sold on a good trade with the best to £390 for a British Blue bull and heifers to £340.

A good enquiry for barrens with a top price of 178p/kg for a 32 month Simmental from Jim Bennison, Ipstones.
Cows topped at 148p/kg for a 810kg Simmental from N & K Goddard, Glossop, with a 685kg Angus realise 148p/kg for J Fernyhough, Longsdon.
Black & Whites sold up to 138p/kg for a 665kg Friesian from RD & A Lomas, Calow, a 795kg Friesian made 133p/kg for J Bailey & Sons, Brown Edge who also sold a 935kg Holstein for 130p/kg. Other Holsteins to 127p/kg for a 735kg from J & R Maydew, who also sold a 690kg for and a 630kg Kiwi Cross made 121p/kg.
Overall average of 116.57p/kg or £774.89.
Top headage prices of £1237.10 for the Simmental from J W Bennison, and another at £1198.80. Holsteins sold to £1215.50 and £1057.35 and Angus’ to £952.15.
CLEAN CATTLE;

A small entry topped at 228p/kg for a 500kg Aberdeen Angus heifer and also a 525kg Aberdeen Angus heifer made 218p/kg.
A 610kg Limousin heifer sold for 218p/kg from Chris Barnsley, Morridge. Other Limousin heifers sold for 206p/kg for a 585kg Limousin from G W Myatt & Partners.
A 695kg British Blue steer realised 218p/kg from M & M Heath, Rushton Spencer.
Top headage prices of £1515.10 for a British Blue steer from M & M Heath, with heifers to £1329.80, £1205.10 and £1144.50.

Scorching Trade at Leek Pedigree Sale
Top of £2660
21 Over £2000
A truly blistering trade at the January Pedigree Sale at Leek saw a top of £2660, 21 pass the £2000 mark and all the milkers average an unbelievable £2039.
Admittedly there was plenty of quality on offer with vendors producing some superb animals for sale.
Leading the trade for cows were the Easom family of Oakerthorpe who yet again presented an enviable group of cows. A third calver Broomhouse Garde Alicia 6065, by one of their homebred bulls had given just short of 9800kg last time. Sold giving 42kg she was purchased by Bill Bradbury and family of Earl Sterndale at £2240. The Easoms group of 4 cows averaged £2173. Numerous other cows passed £2000 including a second calver from the Broadley family of Hartington at £2120 to Messrs Bradbury of Youlgreave.
Heifer trade surpassed all expectations with many, many highlights. Leading the day at £2660 was John Allan of Tutbury with his heifer Leaventhorpe Allclass Spot. Bred from the noted Spot family from the Sterndale Herd of Messrs Nadin she was sold giving 33kg and was clinched by Andrew Hulme of Basford.
Only moments before a Goodwhone daughter Alsopdale Goodwhone Duchess 688 from Andrew Bunting of Bakewell reached £2600 to Messrs Bradbury of Earl Sterndale.
Hot in pursuit at £2560 was a beautiful Claynook Denim Daughter, Meldamar Denim Ruth 110 from the Shepherd family of Bakewell. She also went to Andrew Hulme with a second from the same home reaching £2460 to V Truman of Melton Mowbray.
The Sutton family of Astbury, Congleton showed a lovely row of 5 heifers which made £2480, £2440, £2300, £2240 and £2160 to average an fantastic £2324.
Regular vendor Ray Turner of Rownall saw his Dubthorne Addiction Jordan Red daughter reach £2400 also to Messrs Truman.

Anything can be an improvement on last weeks prices and averages up this week. Top price of 118p/kg for 82kg pigs from David Goldstraw, Meerbrook who also sold 81kg pigs at 116p/kg and 84kg pigs for 100p/kg.
Bacon pigs sold up to 108p/kg for 97kg pigs from PF & PD Parsons, with a 96kg pig at 107p/kg for J & B Fentem, 106p/kg for 98kg pigs from Steve Bailey and 100p/kg for 91kg, 103kg and 93kg pigs from J G Belfield, Sheen.
Heavy pigs harder to sell with a top price of 86p/kg for a pair of 109kg pigs from PF & PD Parsons and also 84p/kg for 106kg pigs from the same home.
Cull sows sold to 74p/kg for a 171kg sow from Bernard Minshull, and other sows generally 40-46p/kg.

An excellent entry of lambs with plenty of quality runs from our customers. Prices slightly up on the week with a top price of 331p/kg for a pen of 35.4kg lambs from Tony Gilman, Elkstones.
Numerous pens over 310p with the heavy lambs to £155.44 per head.
SQQ average of 276.52p/kg or overall average of 265.18p/kg and average headage price of £116.59.

A strong entry sold on another superb trade with an additional buyer in attendance, the overall average came out at £105.15!
Top price of £176 for Texel ewes from Greenarch Texels, Mobberley. £170 & £164 for Texel’s from R & S Bailey, Cloudside, £166 for M Heath, Bradnop and £150 for the Williamsons. Plenty of strong meated continentals above £130 and Mules £90 – £110.

51 Continental Bulls
A very similar story to last week with the best good to sell but a lot of smaller or plainer calves about, a product shortly of the poor weather conditions that are experiencing at present. Bulls peaked at £390 for a sweet Blue bull, lot 135 towards the end of the sale for Messrs Prince, Marchington. Better calves generally £300 plus, mediums £220 – £280 with a few smaller or young bulls under £200.

Heifers are good to sell if they are fresh and sweet or stronger and harder but some plainer calves are harder work. Smart strong Blues peaked at £340 with the better sorts generally £220 – £260. Medium heifers £170 – £220 with younger calves a little less.
