The Monthly Pedigree Dairy Sale attracted some quality entries and some strong leading prices up to £2400 for a heifer from John Stone & Family, with their entry also selling at £2360, £2200 and £2000 with cows to £1990 and young calves to £470.
A solid enquiry again for butchers hogget’s with the best quality in good demand, selling up to 282p/kg for average 247p/kg overall. Cull ewes also a fast trade, selling to £156.
Barren cows continue to get better and trade strong throughout, with a larger proportion of leaner and dairy types, however leading prices of 176p/kg for a Hereford with black & white’s to 150p/kg.
Best quality butchers cattle in good demand, with a top price of 224p/kg for Limousin heifers and Limousin bulls to 211p/kg.
Calves met an excellent enquiry, with buyers for all qualities, and not enough to keep up with demand, with the entry selling to £435 for a British Blue bull calf and Blue heifers to £248.
Pig trade a little less on the week, but it is great to see consistent numbers each week. Leading prices of 126p/kg for both bacon and cutting pigs.

A few less forward but some great quality on offer and vendors taking advantage of the strong trade on offer for clean cattle, selling up to 224p/kg for a 505kg Limousin heifer from M Robinson, Longsdon who also sold a 505kg Limousin heifer at 209p/kg. a 520kg Charolais heifer realised 200p/kg for Wayne Smith, Basford.
Young bulls topped at 211p/kg for a 610kg Limousin from Chris Barnsley, Morridge with two Friesian bull selling well at 173p/kg and 152p/kg for 590kg bulls.
Steers sold up to 181p/kg for a 545kg British Blue from R E Green, Ash Bank.
Top headage price of £1287.10 for Limousin bulls, heifers to £1131.20 and £1055.45.

**TOP OF £2400**
A really good entry forward for the January pedigree sale that was just short of 100 saw a really buoyant trade throughout for all qualities.
An exceptional run of heifers from the Critstone Herd of John Stone of Onecote stole the show. Four out of the five passed the £2000 mark, topping at £2400, then £2360, £2200 and £2000 respectively. The fifth wasn’t far behind at £1940 realising a superb average of £2180.
Messrs Grice of Melton saw one of their heifers reach £2020 with another from regular vendor Ray Turner of Rownall at £2000.
Cows topped at £1990 for a second calver from Messrs Mellor of Earl Sterndale.
The trade in the commercial section was just as strong with Andrew Mills of Ratcliffe on Wreake seeing two of his heifers reach £2100 and £2030. Cows from Malcolm Trevor-Jones were must sought after with a Ayrshire X third calver reaching £1860 and a British Friesian fourth calver at £1800.
Numerous others were in that £1700-£1900 mark throughout the day.

Good numbers again this Tuesday but trade slightly less, with cutting pigs selling up to 126p/kg for an 84kg pig from J & B Fentem, who sold other cutters at 115p/kg, 110p/kg and 108p/kg.
Bacon pigs topped at 126p/kg for a 98kg pig from PF & PD Parson, with a 98kg pig at 125p/kg for Bernard Minshull, and 119p/kg twice for 97kg and 98kg pigs from J G Belfield. The Fentem family sold bacon pigs at 118p/kg, and 116p/kg x3.
Heavy pigs sold up to 115p/kg for a 138kg pig from J G Belfield, Sheen, with 108kg pigs at 105p/kg for PF & PD Parsons, who sold 106kg pigs at 99p/kg and 98p/kg paid for 105kg pigs from Bernard Minshull and also for 118kg pigs from JG Belfield.
Cull sows sold up to 62p/kg for a 240kg sow from Chris Hine, Biddulph, with a run of 250 – 290kg sows from RT Wilson, Oldham achieving 58p/kg x3, 52p/kg and 50p/kg.

A decent entry sold on a firm trade. Generally a very mixed sample with a very large proportion of light weight and under finished lambs as demonstrated by the fact that 20% went for further finishing. Trade would be slightly less than last weeks flyer but still a very firm enquiry. Best lambs would be not much different to a week ago with still plenty at 270p and better.
Heavy lambs seeing a solid trade for the best topping at £151.20. commercial quality lambs generally 15p – 20p back on the week.
Overall average still a very solid 247.7p/kg.
