A red hot Tuesday sale and many farmers making the most of the harvest so numbers short in some sections, however trade was on fire in the Dairy shed with a superb run of heifers from the Johnson family of Longnor selling to £2440.
Barren cattle sold on a solid trade up to 160p/kg and £1127.70, with the clean selling to 234p/kg for a Limousin heifer.
A firm trade for lambs and best quality dearer on the week, selling up to 310p/kg and £146.16/head. A shortage of cull ewes but a strong trade up to £145.
A decent trade for pigs also, with the best topping at 132p/kg and plenty 110 – 125p/kg.
Good to see more calves again this week, and with a good turnout of buyers, calves were a strong trade, with bulls to £410 and heifers to £300.

With the good weather effecting numbers, trade was still brisk and selling up to 160p/kg for a 620kg Limousin from Sam Allcock, Waterhouses. British Blue cows sold to 140p/kg for J H Thornhill, Lyme Park who also sold a 600kg Angus at 130p/kg.
Black & white’s sold up to 142p/kg for a 645kg Friesian from W S Farm Holdings, Stapleton and a 815kg Holstein at 138p/kg for R & T Clowes & Son, Dilhorne. A 655kg Friesian made 132p/kg for W S Farm Holdings, and a 660kg Holstein at 130p/kg for N E Goodwin & Son, Upper Hulme. Overall average of 120.63p/kg or £743.89 per head.
Top headage price of £1124.70 for the 815kg Holstein from R & J Clowes & Son, with Limousins to £992 and Friesians to £915.90.

A smart 520kg Limousin heifer sold very well up to 234p/kg for Mark Butler, Bagnall to gross £1216.80. Two steers from P Partington, Burton made 195p/kg for a 600kg British Blue and 187p/kg for a 625kg Hereford.

TRADE ON FIRE – TOP OF £2440, 12 OVER £2000
The trade for milkers on Tuesday matched the weather been too hot to handle for many purchasers.
A smaller pedigree entry met a flying trade with a Seagull-Bay MVP daughter from Andrew & Joanna Bunting reaching £2260 with a lovely crossbred heifer from Edward Whittaker reached £2110.
However it was the entry of 11 fresh heifers from the Johnson family of Longnor that really set the trade alight with the first through the ring reached £2400. The entry topped at £2440 with 10 passing the £2000 mark and averaging out at £2148. The Johnsons have another 8 entered for next week.
Calves topped at £300 also from the Buntings with the two stock bulls also selling well, the Limousin reaching £2400 and the Beef Shorthorn £2100.

Similar numbers sold on a similar trade for all with a top price of 132p/kg for bacon pigs and cutters to 127p/kg,
Two pork pigs sold at 117p/kg for a 74kg pig from Alan Worth and a 75kg pig at 106p/kg for J & B Fentem. Cutting pigs topped at 127p/kg for a 82kg pig from J G Belfield, Sheen with the Fentems selling cutters at 119p/kg, 115p/kg and 112p/kg.
Bacon pigs sold up to 132p/kg for 86kg pigs from Laura Smith, Basford. A pair of 99kg pigs realised 129p/kg for J Davenport, Gawsworth and also 129p/kg for 94kg pigs
from PF & PD Parsons, Whitchurch. A pair of 94kg pigs made 127p/kg for J G Belfield, and 124p/kg for J & B Fentem with the Parsons selling others at 119p/kg.
Heavier pigs made 100p/kg for a 115kg pig from Bernard Minshull and 97p/kg for 107kg pigs from J G Belfield.
Two sows topped at 71p/kg for Steve Bailey and 62p/kg for Chris Hine.

A few less forward with plenty of hay in the field and talk of less demand for lambs due to the abattoirs being busy meeting festival orders. In reality, trade was very firm, with the best lambs dearer on the week. 3 pens from 3 different vendors over 300p/kg and best sorts generally 275p plus.
Big lambs in very short supply with a very strong demand for those topping at £146.16/head. Plenty at £120/head and better.
More could have been sold to the vendors advantage.
Overall average of 259p/kg or £106.71 per head.
