HOLSTEINS TO £2380 SHORTHORNS TO £2040

A phenomenal entry in the October Pedigree Sale which included the Shorthorn Society Show and Sale saw nearly
200 catalogued with eventually just over 200 sold.

Trade yet again for production animals was hot with numerous passing the £2000 mark.

Topping the day was regular vendors Messrs Easom of Oakerthorpe with a S-S-I Modesty Magictouch daughter. Out of an 13112kg 88 point dam she was eventually clinched by Stockton Heath Ltd for £2380 who also took a second from the same home at £2240.

Andrew Bunting of Bakewell had two lovely heifers to £2300 and £2200 with Michael Wainwright of Buxton seeing his reach £2280.

A fantastic entry of 90 Shorthorns for the Autumn Society Show and Sale attracted great interest with trade swift for all categories including youngstock.

The judge Graham Brindley picked out a powerful third calver from the Amber Herd of Messrs Hole as his champion. By Amber Tornado and out of an 85 point dam, she was sold giving 38kg and was secured by a local purchaser for £1800.

However it was a fantastic heifer from the Leisure Herd of Messrs Howe of Buxton by Rantonhall Aubrey that created most interest. After spirited bidding she was eventually clinched by D Green of Lach Dennis for £2040.

Messrs Hole also had a heifer to £1940 to join the Foldspride Herd of M Tidmarsh.

Sheep Section;

Selling time 11:00am
Auctioneer – Robert Watkins (07929 946652)
BUTCHERS LAMBS (562);

A much reduced entry which was disappointing given the exceptional level of trade we have been experiencing but not surprising five the store and breeding sheep sales giving rise to 6-day rule issues and increment weather conditions not allowing lambs to finish well.

Trade is certainly back nationally with talk of lock down making supplies of the catering sector very nervous. We did however have a pleasing sale on the day at 100% clearance was easily achieved with competitive bidding throughout. Many more lambs could have been sold on the day with some buyers left disappointed.

Best lambs sold to 221p/kg from James Ball of Cheddleton with best sorts generally 205p – 220p depending on weight and finish. Generally a lack of best lambs forward today and orders for best shaped handy weight lambs went unfulfilled.

221p 42kg – J Ball, Cheddleton
220p 43kg – DH & J Lovatt, Rushton Spencer

210p 48.5kg – J Gilman & Partners, Bosley
