BUTCHERS LAMBS (462);
Not as bigger entry as was expected in part due to the reports of falling trade putting off some vendors.
Trade was less but still much better than anticipated and competitive bidding throughout. The quality pf stock we are seeing each week is very good and certainly makes them easier to sell.
Best lambs flying away to 330p and a good number still at 300p and better, but only really for heavier (40kg +) sorts. Best big lambs selling very well to £155/head.
Overall average 278p/kg or £112/head which is still very strong compared to other years.
More well fed lambs could be sold each week.
Sample prices;
300p 38kg A Shaw, Sturston
330p 43.5kg C G Buckston, Sutton on the Hill
321p 40kg C G Buckston, Sutton on the Hill

310p 50kg J M Robinson, Swythamley
CULL SHEEP (150);
A seasonal entry with trade perhaps not quite as fast but still strong. Best Texel’s to £160 for Kirkham & Bourne and plenty £130 and better.
Best mules to £110 and horned ewes to £60.
Best Texel Rams to £162/head.
Overall average at £92.53 which is the first time below £100 for some time but this reflects the goods on offer more than the level of demand.
