Market Report 29th June

A bustling Tuesday Market with plenty of trade in all sections today! The Dairies saw a lovely trade, with milkers to £2110 and £2070 with numerous milkers £1700 and above.
It was very good to see more barren and clean cattle forward with vendors taking advantage of the excellent trade on offer, with cows to 158p/kg and clean cattle to 234p/kg.
Pigs sold on a super trade, with averages well up across the board selling up to 149p/kg for quality pigs.
A much firmer trade than expected for butchers lambs, and good to see some excellent quality from our vendors, selling up to 308p/kg and £148.20.
Calves were just as dear, with not top quality highlights of last week, but strong money for what was on offer topping at £400 for Herefords and Blues to £390.

An excellent entry this Tuesday and what a trade we received!! Top prices of 158p/kg for a 700kg Simmental cow from MR Beardmore, Ipstones and a 745kg British Blue cow at 155p/kg for J A Griffin, Osmaston.
Herefords sold up to 153p/kg for a 685kg cow from Brough & Fox, Hurdlow and Angus’ to £153p/kg from the same home.

Top headage price of £1154.75 for British Blues, Holsteins to £1153.20 for a 930kg cow DR & KL Leadbetter, Sudbury. Hereford topped at £1147.30; Friesians to £1112.20 and Simmentals to £1106.
Two bulls sold on a real good trade topping at 137p/kg for a 1195kg Simmental bull from T Bell & Partners to gross £1637.15 and a 780kg Limousin bull at 119p/kg from JH & IEA Bennett, Brandside.

Good to see more cattle forward and a strong trade for the cattle on offer. Top price of 234p/kg for a 520kg Limousin Heifer from Chris Barnsley, Morridge.
Other heifers sold to 190p/kg for a 535kg British Blue from John Ratcliffe, Rodsley.
Steers sold up to 207p/kg for a 565kg Blonde from J S Hine, Biddulph Park who also sold a 615kg Blonde steer for 198p/kg. A 640kg Simmental steer sold for 202p/kg for T Partington, Burton, who also sold a 560kg British Blue steer for 194p/kg.
Black & white bulls sold on a solid trade up to 185p/kg for a 610kg Friesian and 176p/kg for a 575kg Friesian, both from J E Archer & Sons, Hilton.
Top headage prices of £1292.80 and £1217.70 for steers, heifers to £1216.80 and bulls to £1128.50.

Another bouncy trade for milkers saw a 28kg heifer from Richard Lomas of Calow reach £2110 to Ed Clowes of Kingsley with a second from the same home at £2070 to Andrew Hulme.
Messrs Riley of Longnor saw their 30kg heifer to £2050 to Messrs Moss of Endon.
Ian Ellis of Ashover saw his Shorthorn cross heifer reach £2000 to Messrs Clowes of Dilhorne with a black & white heifer from Skinner Bros of Melton Mowbray to £1990 to Messrs Ford of Twemlow.

An exceptional trade to what we have been accustomed to of late, with a few less about, and plenty of buyers after numbers. Trade topped at 149p/kg twice for both cutters and bacon pigs.
Pork pigs sold up to 128p/kg for 66kg pigs from P J Barker, Charnwood, with a 75kg pig at 123p/kg for J & B Fentem and 117p/kg for 74kg pigs from GS & A Sheard.
Cutting pigs sold up to 149p/kg for 80kg pigs from J & B Fentem, who sold others at 137p/kg. An 81kg pig made 145p/kg for J Davenport, Gawsworth who also sold a 84kg pig at 114p/kg.
Bacon pigs sold well topping at 149p/kg for a 101kg pig from Bernard Minshull, Buxton, with 148p/kg received for 87kg pigs from J Davenport, Gawsworth with the Fentem family selling bacon pigs at 147p/kg, 146p/kg, 141p/kg and 138p/kg. a 91kg pig made 140p/kg for Bernard Minshull and 91kg pigs made 140p/kg also, for PF & PD Parsons.
Heavy pigs sold up to 147p/kg for 112kg pigs from J & B Fentem, with 105kg pigs at 125p/kg for PF & PD Parsons, and 116p/kg for 105kg pigs from Bernard Minshull. 112kg pigs realised 110p/kg for P & N Allen, Uttoxeter, and 110p/kg for 105kg pigs from J & B Fentem.
Just one cull sow selling to 86p/kg for a 286kg sow from P & N Allen, Uttoxeter.

A few less forward but trade much firmer than many expected with plenty of demand and many more could have been sold to the vendors advantage.
Best lambs in very good demand, topped at 308p/kg for an exceptional pen from Rob & Andy Williamson, but plenty of lambs at 280p/kg and better looking very well sold.
A few more plainer sorts creeping into the entry but selling well enough at 210 – 230p/kg.
Overall average of 271p/kg and top headage price of £148.20.

Yes, the average is a little less but generally a poorer quality calf on offer. 6 better bulls topped £380 with £390 achieved on 3 separate occasions for Charolais from Messrs Brookes and Blues from James Maydew and John Plant. 15 more good sorts sold over £330 with smaller mediums £250 – £300 and a few smaller sorts around £200.

Unbelievably dear again with different buyers at the ringside but all aware of the atrong trade if they wanted to compete. 14 best heifers topped £280 with Blues up to £328 for Peter & Angela Woodward and Blondes to £330 for Messrs Gilman of Buglawton. Mediums £220 – £260 with smaller calves around £200.
