LAMBS (884);
A similar entry met a similar trade overall, with best sorts again in good demand and leaner sorts finding a competitive market, but at a lower price.

Heavy weights not as fierce as previous weeks but still at 238p/kg for overweight’s and topping at £124.95 per head.

Best butchers lambs to 270p/kg and a number of pens at 260p plus. Overall average at 230p/kg.

Sample prices;
263p 39kg G & A Peach, Clifton
260p 37.6kg G Burton, Repton
270p 44.3kg R Brough & Son, Monyash
262p 45.5kg R J Critchlow, Grindon
259p 43kg C Wood, Cauldon Lowe
270p 45.6kg R Brough & Son, Monyash
246p 50.7kg WHI Mellor, Stockport
238p 52.5kg R A Critchley, Denstone
230p 53kg GW & SM Pattinson, Weaver
229p 53.3kg J & W Knight, Horton

A bumper entry which unfortunately coincided with a national downturn in trade and some regular buyers choosing to ‘miss a week’ due to lack of demand.

Lean sorts very difficult to sell and understandably farmers are choosing to prioritise grass in other directions rather than improving cull stock. Fortunately, a number of grazing buyers today taking any stock with potential to improve.

Best sorts remain a competitive trade, topping at £160 for heavy Texel’s and continental ewes generally £120 for heavy sorts.

Mules difficult to sell, as is the story elsewhere. Best sorts at £110 but plenty at £60 – £80.

Overall average of £68/head but a very poor show of quality overall.
