More Barren Cattle forward this week with a top price of 216p for a 500kg Hereford and clean cattle up to 247p/kg for a 515kg Friesian bull

Great trade for best pigs with 236p/kg being the top price of the day for fat pigs

Excellent trade in the calves with a Limousin bull topping at £482 and a British Blue heifer reaching £380

Another good entry of sheep with with over 1,000 head on offer, lambs up to 360p/kg and Texel Ewes topping at £271

An increased entry with additional buying support, ensuring that there was a firm trade from start to finish.

Top price of the day was 216p for a 500kg Hereford from Dennis Jefferey of Roston and 205p/kg for a 720kg Charolais cow from G Grindey & J Hill of Onecote to gross £1476.00.

A Charolais, for S Kidd of Longnor achieved 200p/kg, a 645kg Hereford for G Grindey & J Hill sold to 195p/kg and a 600kg Limousin X, for WK Hurley, selling particularly well at 193p/kg with others at 190p/kg-540kg, 187p/kg-605kg and 186p/kg-590kg.

Holstein, from WE Turnock & Sons of Onecote, at 730kg, achieved 179p/kg, an 860kg Holstein, for Robinson Partners, sold to 175p/kg to gross £1505 and a 625kg Luing selling particularly well for 171p/kg.

Overall average £1056.76 and 164.90p/kg.

CLEAN CATTLE (8)
An entry of four Friesian bulls from regular vendor JE Archer & Sons of Hilton topped at 247p/kg for a 515kg bull and 242p/kg for a 480kg bull.

Shorthorn steers, for NA Bonsall of Stansthorpe sold up to 238p/kg at 685kg with a cross bred heifer for Dennis Jefferey at 645kg selling at 227p/kg.

Top headage price was £1630.30

Similar numbers to last week and trade very much on a par. A few more plain pigs on show today which are more difficult to place but those best pigs on fire. Top price 236p for fat pigs, gilts generally 215p-230p and boars 205-215p. Sows sold to 135p

Porkers topped at 205p for Gareth Goodall, Marston Montgomery.

Cutters sold to 232p twice for S Bailey, Knypersley. J& Fentem to 230p x2 & 209p.

Bacon pigs dominated the entry with Christmas approaching, top price 236px2 for Massie Farms, Stafford, who had others to 235p x2, 232p. PF+PD Parsons, Whitchurch to 233p. B Minshull, Buxton to 232p. 229p, 226p, 225p, 223p. J&B Fentem, Alsop en-le Dale to 230p, 228p. PJ Saunders to 213p.

Heavies sold well to 208p for PF+PD Parsons who had others at 202p and 198p. JA&B Minshull to 203p.

Sows sold to 135p or £295.55 for a 293kg sow from PJ Saunders, Litchfield. EB Sherratt, Biddulph to 124p. P&E Lawton, Macclesfield to 82p and J&B Fentem to 56p.

DAIRIES TO £2200
A mixed quality entry met a mixed trade, however, prices still topped at £2200 for a fresh heifer from Mick and Kay Hulse. They also had a Swedish Red X second calver to £2120.

A neat 26kg heifer from John Hill of Chesterfield reached £1910.

A busy couple of weeks ahead with the monthly Pedigree Sale next week, where almost 40 Milkers are already entered. The following week we have the herd dispersal on behalf of the Kennerley family (See full details below).

A good entry sold on a solid trade, firmer on all sides and plenty of demand throughout.

Best sorts to 360p/kg and plenty at 320-340p/kg. Heavy lambs a fast price, topping at 336p or £171/head.

More best lambs could be sold each week.

Overall average at 300p/kg or £132/head to include a number of lambs in store condition and going for further feeding.

A bigger show of ewes today with 386 on offer, meat once again the order of the day and those meated ewes commanding a serious premium. Top price £271 for a Texel ewe from Robin Smith, Cheddleton. A Howe to £250 for Texel ewes. D Williams to £209 & £204.

35 CONTINENTAL BULLS
An unreal trade for the big, the good and the third quality. Four best bulls topped the £400 mark from four different vendors. Brian Goodwin had £482for his Limousin with other Limousin at £435 for Ed Clowes and £408 for Fred Yates with British Blues at £445 for Andy Williamson. Mediums £250-£320 with a few smaller bulls under £200.
