It was starting to feel like the beginning of Autumn in Leek today with the rain barely letting up but this didn’t seem to dull the atmosphere.
240 Dairies on offer with a Herd Dispersal Sale from Bicester attracting a lot of attention. A second calver from Messrs Critchlow topped the market at £2500.
Barren entries were on the rise today with 34 entries seeing a shaper trade with some excellent prices acheived.
117 Pigs on offer today which is a lighter showing but still a solid trade with fats topping at 240p/kg.
A good number of Calves today at 169 with a good show of Farmers around the ring Topping the market was a Limousin from FE Whittaker & Son at £460.

An increased entry with a sharper trade and some excellent prices.
Top price was 227p/kg for a 680kg Limousin Cow from AP Wain of Draycott with a 630kg Limousin from Messrs Bradbury of Ipstones selling at 198p/kg. Another 805kg Limousin Cow from EJ Beech of Cellarhead was well sold at 187p/kg.
Black & White Cows topped at 179p/kg for a 430kg Cow from HJ Whitfield of Doveridge.

An increased entry with plenty of buyers around the ring ensuring a firm trade for the cattle on offer.
An entry of four Friesian Bulls from JE Archer & Sons of Hilton achieved up to 232p/kg for a 580kg Bull with others at 226p/kg for a 605kg Friesian Bull and 223p/kg for a 555kg Bull.
Other Cattle achieved up to 233p/kg for a 650kg Hereford Steer from Trevor Partington of Burton on Trent with over 30 month Hereford Steers from Rushton Spencer up to 224p/kg for a 690kg beast and others up to 214p/kg for a 660kg Hereford.
Top headage price was £1545.60 with Bulls up to £1367.30 and £1345.60
A 500kg Aberdeen Angus Heifer form Tony Gilman of Elkstones achieved 224p/kg to gross £1120.00

A shed full of dairies attracted a large crowd of buyers with many turning out for the Herd Dispersal on behalf of the Bentley family of Marsh Gibbon, Bicester.
Trade for the commercial entry was sharp with a second calver from Phillip and Marilyn Critchlow topping at £2500 with another second calver from the same home reaching £2340 both heading to John Bayley of Nuneaton.
A solid trade for the herd dispersal saw a top price of £2140 for a fresh third calver by Goonhill Gabriel with numerous others in the £1800 – £2000 mark.
Entries are coming thick and fast for next weeks Pedigree Sale with towards 70 milkers entered together with a group of calves from the Meadowfold Herd of Messrs Poyser and 3 Pedigree Simmental Stock Bulls from two homes.

Very best Lambs probably no dearer, topping at 287p/kg but commercial quality Lambs seeing a useful lift, generally being 245-260p/kg and an overall average produced of 260p SQQ or 259p overall with average headage up at £110.20/head.
Top headage at £144.52
