A busy sheep shed saw 1384 forward and a good trade for many, with top prices up to 270p/kg and £142.44 per head, to average 243.63p/kg overall. Cull ewes in demand and some good sorts forward, topping at £172.
A fast trade for pigs this week with another excellent entry and many selling over 200p/kg, to top at 220p/kg and £205.87 per head.
Dairies saw a mixed trade, but some excellent heifers from Andrew Mills topped the day at £2460, £2420 and £2380. Don’t forget next week is the Christmas Show & Sale, catalogues now available online.
A few less Barren cattle about but a good trade seeing a top price of 177p/kg and £1264.50.
A mixed trade for calves this week and unfortunately not enough forward to fulfil orders. Top prices of £375 for a British Blue bull and Blue heifers to £268.

A decent trade for the entry on offer, selling up to 177p/kg for a 615kg Belted Galloway from F D Horsford, Croxden. Limousin’s to 162p/kg for a 770kg cow from J R Beeson, Grindley, who also sold a 680kg Limousin at 157p/kg. A 655kg Simmental realised 155p/kg for J F Barber, Quarnford and a 685kg Limousin to 153p/kg for S Kidd Farmers.
Black & white’s up to 153p/kg for a 820kg Holstein from R J Clowes & Sons, Kingsley and a 645kg Montbeliarde realised 150p/kg for FA & TM Cotton, Tean and a 845kg Holstein realised 150p/kg for J G Curtis & Son, Basford.
Top headage price of £1264.50 for Holsteins with others at £1254.60; Limousin’s to £1247.40 and Belted Galloway to £1088.55.
Overall average of 132.91p/kg or £852.83 per head.

A really bouncy trade on Tuesday saw a top of £2460 for a 28kg heifer from Andrew Mills of Ratcliffe on Wreake with others from the same home to £2420 and £2380.
Close behind at £2100 was a 30kg heifer from T Swinson of Caverswall.
Cows peaked at £1940 for a second calver giving 37kg from Messrs Darwin of Sheffield.

Another bumper entry of 159 pigs this Tuesday, trade on fire for those well shaped pigs topping et 220p/kg for 92kg gilts from D Goldstraw, Meerbrook. Numerous pens today over the 200p/kg mark.
Porkers topped at 203p/kg for 74kg pigs from J&B Fentem Alsop en-le Dale, who had another pen at 73kg releasing 203p/kg. A Worth, Marton saw 194p/kg for 74kg pigs. PF & PD Parsons, Whitchurch realised 190p/kg for 75kg pigs. A few lean, coloured pigs were harder to place but all finding homes.
Cutters a strong trade particularly those well shaped sorts, a few plainer types in the mix were harder to place. Top price of 219p/kg from J &B Fentem, Alsop en-le Dale who sold others to 205p/kg for 77kg pigs . P J Bowers, Mow-Cop sold 83kg pigs to 206p/kg and D Guildford sold 84kg pigs to 206p/kg. A Worth saw 204p/kg for a 76kg pig.
Bacon pigs a flying trade with an average of 198.17p/kg on the week up from last week, numerous pens over the 200p/kg mark today topping at 220p/kg for a pen of 4 gilts weighing 92kg from D Goldstraw, Meerbrook. S Bailey, Knypersley had a 89kg pig to 216p/kg, with J & B Fentem having 90kg pigs to 215p/kg. Massie Farms, Stafford had a run of pigs selling to 214p/kg x2, 213p/kg x2 211p/kg and 209p/kg x2.
Heavies topped at 165p/kg from PF & PD Parsons, Whitchurch for a 120kg Gilt, another 128kg gilt sold to 148p/kg from the same home. M Leason, Somersal Herbert sold 106kg pigs to 132p/kg.
Just the one sow after last weeks bumper entry selling to 42p/kg for a 308kg sow from M Leason, Somersal Herbert.

Another solid entry of lambs seeing a firm trade throughout, which is encouraging after mixed reports of trade over the preceding few days.
A solid trade for the best meated sorts and more could be sold to the vendors advantage. Heavy weights also good to sell and plenty adding up to £120 – £140/head. SQQ average at 245p/kg but included a number of under finished light weight lambs which are difficult to place.
Normal market next Tuesday and lambs are likely to be in good demand.
