Market Report Tuesday 13th February

A good day trading throughout at Leek Auctions with good numbers in the Calf shed, seeing 124 on offer and selling to an excellent trade with a Charolais Bull topping at £470 and a Limousin Heifer topping at £435.

Numbers continue to rise in the Barren section seeing a top price of £1820.55 being achieved for an Aberdeen Angus weighing 795kg.

The sheep numbers still rising, seeing an excellent trade throughput with over 1,200 head on offer and topping at 375p/kg.

A top price of £2,320 in the Dairy shed for the best Heifer with others also topping the £2,000 mark.

 

BARREN COWS & BULLS (34)

Selling time – 10:00am

A fast trade throughout with a good number of bidders in attendance.

Top price was £1820.55 for a 33-month-old Aberdeen Angus Heifer weighing 795kg and selling for 229p/kg.

A 640kg Montbeliarde Cow, from SC, FE JA Harvey, sold for 178p/kg with a Friesian at 720kg also selling for 178p/kg.

An entry of 7 cows, from new vendor G & R Pykett of Ilkeston, achieved up to 176p/kg for a 780kg Limousin X and 175p/kg for a 775kg Limousin X.

A 1075kg Hereford Stock Bull was well sold at 160p/kg to gross £1720.

Other top headage prices for Cows were £1450.80 for a Holstein from G E Brookes & Partners and £1372.80 for a Limousin X from G & R Pykett.

Good numbers forward with 113 sold. Fats topped at 174p with trade on the whole 10-15p down from last week.

Porkers sold to 167p from S Bailey

Cutters sold to 170p from J&B Fentem. C Hine had pigs to 170 & MR Banham also to 170p.

Baconers topped at 174p from S Bailey. D Goldstraw to 170p and J&B Fentem to 170p

Heavies to 174p for 122kg pigs from R Rowlinson. 180kg gilts to 124p or £240 from C Blackshaw

Sows sold to 50p from C Blackshaw.

DAIRIES TO £2320

 

A very brisk trade for milkers on Tuesday saw the best heifer reach £2320 from David Brailsford of Chesterfield to Brian Parker of Haughton. He also went on to take a heifer from John Stone of Onecote at £2040.

Numerous heifers were in that £1800-£2000 mark reflecting a much more buoyant trade for all qualities.

 

There is an excellent entry already forward for next week’s Pedigree Sale with nearly 70 Milkers entered.

A decent show of Hoggetts on offer but many more could have been sold to the vendor’s advantage. Trade was absolutely on fire for all types and all weights.

Overall average of 327p/kg or £139.18/head!!

Best Hoggetts well bid for, topping at 375p/kg and best heavies to £199.36 for some outstanding 56kg Texels from the Machin Family of Rudyard.

Best Hoggs regularly 350p and better and plenty more at 335p-350p. The averages speak for themselves.
