An 895kg Limousin cow topped the barrens at 277p/kg to £2479.15/head which was the top headage price of the day for J L Mellor & Partners of Macclesfield who had another Limousin weighing 735kg selling to 266p/kg to gross £1955.10.

Waller Farms of Macclesfield had a 900kg Charolais cow to 270p/kg to gross £2430 with an Aberdeen Angus weighing 660kg achieving 262p/kg to gross £1729.20 for Waller Farms also.

CLEAN
A British Blue heifer weighing 650kg topped the clean cattle today at 341p/kg to gross £2216.50 for AW & D Kennerley & Son of Betley with a Simmental heifer weighing 645kg sold to 336p/kg to gross £2167.20 for the same vendor.

Hereford heifers weighing 585kg achieved 336p/kg to gross £1965.60 for Messrs Allen of Ashbourne who also had a 600kg Aberdeen Angus heifer to 317p/kg to gross £1902.00.

A 600kg Aberdeen Angus bull achieved 332p/kg to gross £1992.00.

A bunch of three Friesian bulls achieved 328p/kg and 326p/kg (twice) to gross £1853.20, £1858.20 (twice).

Overall average was 291.04/kg with an average headage price of £1210.48/head.

A large entry of pigs this week met a strong demand. Plain sorts harder work but all finding homes. It’s nice to see a few new vendors travelling to leek today seeing a top price of 228p or £214.43. Best gilts 215p-225p, generally 195p-210p. Boars 155p-175p.
Plain or overweight pigs 80-120p.

Porkers sold to 206p for W Gregson, Preston. J&B Fentem to 199p.

Cutters sold to 210p for new vendor Harry Hollins, Market Drayton. G Weston to 205p, 204p and hoggs to 189p and 181p. Boars to 170p for W Gregson.

Bacon pigs sold to 228p for Massie Farms who had others to 222p x2, 220p, 219p, 218p, 216p, 214px2. GR Weston to 216p. Harry Hollins to 214p. PJ Saunders to 209p. PF+PD Parsons to 207p, 198p, 197p.

Heavies to 152p for Peter Hine. JA&B Minshull to 150p, PJ Saunders to 147p.

As a vendor described on the day, a resilient trade for the dairies forward despite the current turbulence within the industry.

Trade topped at £2200 for a fresh heifer from the Brassington family of Calf Heath, Wolverhampton.

Two smashing In-calf heifers from Mick and Kay Hulse sold very well, with a Swedish Red X to £2200 and a Montbeliarde X to £2040.

A big entry forward for next week with 50 entered to date in the Pedigree Catalogue and a small herd dispersal to follow, details of which will be out shortly.

A better entry saw a very busy trade with plenty of competition and new orders generating.

Best lambs very well bid for to a top of 410p/kg and up to £213.84/head for some excellent heavy weight lambs.

Commercial lambs generally 310p – 340p/kg for handy weight and 290p – 310p/kg for heavies.

Overall average a pleasing 328p/kg SQQ or 318p/kg overall which included plenty of power shaped types.

Very good to sell with a whole host of buyers wanting and needing numbers. Three best over £700 with a tremendous shapy Blue at £745 from Andrew Cotton with Sheila McLeavy and Andy Williamson both also in the £700 club. Medium bulls generally £500 – £600 with smaller rearers £450 – £500 and just a handful under £400.
