A great day for the Spring Lamb show and sale with the overall Champion going to Ian Wilson & Family which went on to sell for £11/kg to gross £418.
The pedigree sale in the dairies had a good day also, with the top price of £3640 going to a powerful heifer from Messrs Stubbs. The final dispersal of Mr Wrench topped at £2440.
The Barren shed saw a top price of 335p/kg and the top headage price of the day was £2224. A lean Hereford stock bull grossed at £1965.60

Top price of the day was 335p/kg for a 545kg Black & White from J R Johnson & Sons of Ipstones with a Limousin X from DA Shuker of Weston Coyney weighing 580kg making 279p/kg.
The heaviest cow of the day was an 800kg Black & White, from WE Turnock & Sons, achieved 278p/kg and another 815kg Black & White from D R & A Shuker & Sons of Bosley exchanged hands for 277p/kg.

Two stock bulls sold up to 234p/kg for an 840kg lean Hereford for JH & IEA Bennett & Sons of Brandside to gross £1965.60 with a 580kg Black & White bull from MM & CJ Sutton achieving 208p/kg.
CLEAN CATTLE
A 23-month-old Aberdeen Angus bull from JAS Agricultural UK Ltd, at 675kg sold well to 339p/kg to gross £2288.25.

Pigs similar to last week. Top price on the day was 195p/kg for fat pigs, gilts were generally 190p + and boars 160p +. A poorer show in the sows, topping at 60p/kg.
Porkers sold to 185p/kg for J&B Fentem, SL Seabridge sold to 163p.
Cutters sold to 192p for J&B Fentem, with others to 190px3, SL Seabridge sold to 190px2 and also had others 163p.
Bacon pigs sold to 195p x4 and 194p for Massie Farms. Wendy Stamper to 192p and 190p, PF & PD Parsons sold to 192p, JA & B Minshull to 190p x 2, J & B Fentem at 190p and Chris Hine to 190p and 189p.
Heavy pigs topped at 124p for 133kg Gilts for PF & PD Parsons.
Sows generally a poorer show with nothing really sparkling on offer topping at 60p for Burnleigh Farm who had others at 50p and 42p. Wendy Stamper sold to 40p and 38p.

Pedigrees to £3640
A fiery trade at the April Pedigree Sale at Leek saw a powerful heifer from the Tissington herd of Messrs Stubbs reach £3640 with a second from the same home at £3300.
Cows and heifers from the Meldamar herd were much sought after, with their heifer reaching £2950 and three second calvers making £2920, £2820 and £2800 respectively.
The final dispersal on behalf of David Wrench peaked at £2440 for New Zealand Friesian heifers with in-calf heifers from the same home to £1980.
The pedigree Aberdeen Angus bull created a great deal of interest with the Critchlow family, eventually clinching him at £4780.

SPRING LAMBS (106)
A good entry for the Easter Show saw a very strong demand, particularly for the best types.
The pre-sale show was very kindly judged by Mr Rob Mollatt of Mollatts Farm Butchers, who have recently taken on Ipstones butchers shop. He awarded champion of the day to a lamb from Ian and Andrew Wilson of Hollington, who are regular vendors. The lamb went on to sell for £11/kg, grossing £418 and will be available to purchase from Ipstones shop. Thanks to all vendors, purchasers and the judge for their support.
Other prize winners from the Wilson family, selling to 860p/kg, 800p, 660p and 650p and lambs from John and Gaz Fryer to 700p/kg.
Away from the show, best shaped lambs generally 420p – 450p/kg, plenty of others at 400p + and commercial quality 350p-390p depending on weight and finish.
Regular supply of lambs now required weekly to sustain orders.
HOGGS (635)
A reduced entry saw an excellent trade, with prices actually up on the week, despite it being against the run of events nationally.
Best hoggs regularly 390p – 420p and the best flying away to 430p/kg for very well fed hoggs from James Ball, closely followed by Stuart Rushton at 428p/kg.
Big hoggs continue to be harder to sell, but dearer on the week with a top gross of £208.31 from Jack Belfield and Family.
SQQ average at 350p and 331p overall.
