Pigs on an absolute flying trade this week seeing a top price of 237p/kg or £237.77/head

Just short of 1,000 sheep on offer with a competitive trade throughout, seeing hoggs to 450p/kg with a top headage price of £210.10 and ewes to £340/head

Barrens to 300p/kg, topping at £2146/head with clean cattle topping at 358/kg or £2344.90/head

More calves could easily have been sold with a top price of £860 for a Blue bull and Blue heifers to £600

A strong trade seen for the Pedigree dairies, topping at £3180 for a second calver

Barren cows seeing an increase in trade once again with more needed each week to meet demand.

Top price this week was a very respectable 300p/kg for a Hereford cow weighing 630kg to gross £1890 from J & W Knight of Horton.

A 600kg Shorthorn cow sold to 290p/kg to gross £1740 for Mick Reeves & Family of Ipstones.

A Stabiliser X Cow weighing 740kg sold to 290p/kg to gross £2146, the top headage price of the day, for DA & ME Whitehurst of Nobut.

The overall average was 349.10p/kg or £2001.53/head.

Nothing short of an absolute flyer. 169 pigs seen and sold to a fast trade. Gilts regularly 210p – 230p, boars 170p – 190p. Top price 237p for Massie Farms to a top price of £237.77/head.

Only two porkers sold to 235p and 176p for J Davies, Holyhead.

Cutters sold to 233p twice for Graham Weston, Longsdon. B Minshull to 202p. S Bailey 200p. K Lloyd-Hughes, Anglesey to 198p. Boars to 188p for J&B Fentem and GL & S Lloyd, Llandinam.

Leek Pedigrees to £3180
The best continue to be a strong trade within the dairy ring with milkers topping at £3180 for a very sweet second calver from the Broomhouse Herd of Messrs Easom giving 46kg. They also had another second calver giving 47kg to £3050.

Two second calvers from the Havendale Herd of Messrs Flower both reached £2500.

The Easom family also topped the trade for heifers at £2650 for a 33kg Pine-Tree Denovo Avon daughter.
Close behind at £2580 was a Prosecco daughter from the Shieldhouse Herd of the Weston family from Roston.

Good cows and heifers still remain in that £2 – £3000 price bracket despite the current hit on the milk price however there is definitely a two tier trade developing between the best and lower qualities.
Young heifer calves topped at £460 from Messrs Swindell.

A similar entry, sold on a very fast trade with competitive bidding from the first pen to the last.

Best lambs in extreme demand, to a top of 450p/kg and nineteen pens at 400p/kg or more.

Handy weights best to sell as usual of late and the SQQ average of 367p/kg tells the story.

Big lambs easier to sell than the last few weeks, to a top of 415p/kg for heavies and 382p/kg for over weights. Top headage of £210.10 from Rob and Andy Williamson.
