Over 1,200 sheep entered this week with ewes to £321, Hoggs to 494p/kg or £245/head and Spring Lambs to 525p/kg or £249/head

The Pedigree Dairy Sale topped at £3550 for a second calver

Calves to £840 for a British Blue bull and a Limousin heifer to £705

Pigs to 182p/kg for Gilts and Sows on a flyer at 131p/kg

Top headage price a touch down on the week at £1872.30 but still a good price non the less for a Friesian cow from B Swindells of Leek which sold to 237p/kg.

A 650kg Holstein sold to 270p/kg to gross £1755 for WE Turnock & Sons of Onecote.

Less pigs forward this week with trade similar to last week. Gilts very much in demand topping at 182p for B Minshull, sows a flyer selling to 131p or £280 for Massie farms.

Porkers sold to 145p for B Barlow.

Cutters to 135p for PF+PD Parsons.

Bacon pigs to 182p, 178p, 175p 174p for Massie farms and B Minshull to 182p, 175p, 170p. J&B Fentem to 140p & C Hine 140p.

Heavies topped at 170p for J&D Kidd, M R Banham to 130p.

Sows to 131p, 100p, 55p for Massie farms. C Hine to 60p.

LEEK PEDIGREES TO £3550
A solid trade for milkers at the May Pedigree Sale saw a top price of £3550 for a second calver from the Meldamar Herd of Messrs Shepherd. By Mingus she was sold giving 42kg and went to a regular purchaser.

Close behind at £3450 was a very stylish heifer from the Leaventhorpe Herd of John Allen by Winstar Parfect Cirrus. Other heifers reached £3000 from Messrs Cotton of Whiston.

Overall, another two-tier trade with first and best second quality milkers selling well and low second and third being steadier.

A big jump in numbers forward and these were easily absorbed by the buyers and a good trade throughout.

Best sorts selling to 525p/kg and plenty of lambs at 510p – 520p. Best big lambs grossed £249/head. Overall average £197/head.
