Market Report Tuesday 1st August

Overall, a good day’s trade in Leek throughout.

 Dairies, 135 on offer today, lots of quality on offer with the best to £2720 to The Eason Family and many others reaching £2000 plus.

 Lambs saw a modest entry with best lambs topping at 300p/kg and a top headage of £151.74

 Pigs, Fat pig trade remains strong with a top headage of £238.43 and Sows in good demand topping at £342/head

Calves saw similar numbers to last week with a solid trade. A good number of buyers saw two best Bulls reach the £400 mark.

 Barren cows topped at 196p/kg for J&R Maydew, Consall. We have a good number of buyers in attendance each week looking forall types of clean cattle.

A small entry today but a full compliment of Buyers around the ring with trade slightly less but stillcomparing well with other centres and the national trends.

Top prices were:

196p/kg 565kg Simmental        J&R Maydew, Consall

190p/kg 675kg Holstien WE Turnock & Sons, Onecote

178p/kg 555kg Holstien            J&R Maydew, Consall

178p/kg 650kg Holstien  WE Turnock & Sons, Onecote

Other prices included 169p/kg for a 685kg Simmental and 160p/kg for a 580kg Hereford.

A 710kg, 39 month Hereford Steer from JS Hine of Biddulph Park sold for 185p/kg and a 1055kg Simmental stock Bull from RG & AS Williamson of Wetley Rocks was well sold at 180p/kg.

Top Headage price was £1899 for two Simmental Bulls,

Holstien Cows up to £1282.50 and £1247.40 and a Brown Swiss at £1185.00.

Overall average 154.92p/kg

 CLEAN CATTLE;

A 500kg Hereford Heifer waswell sold and exchanged hands for 200p/kg, £1000.

There are a good number of buyers in attendance each week looking for all types of clean cattle.

Fat pig trade remains strong topping at 229p/kg or £238.43 averages looking very healthy at 220p/kg. Sows in good demand againtopping at 118p/kg and £342/head.

 Only a few porkers topped at 219p/kg from R Brough, Pikehall with others to 218p/kg.

 Cutters topped at 228p/kg from M R Banham, Bromsgrove, others from the same home to 225p/kg. J&B Fentem had a run to 228, 227, 226×2, 224 & 221p/kg.

 Bacon Pigs topped at 229p/kg from Massie Farms, Stafford who had others to 227p/kg x7. J&B Femtem 229p/kg. MC & E Beattie had pigs to 227p/kg. 

 Heavies topped at 211p/kg for a 113kg gilt from R Rowlinson, Ramshorn. JR Mosedale topped at 182p/kg for a 107kg pig.

 Sows topped at 118p/kg for a 290kg sow from R Rowlinson, Ramshorn. M R Banham topped at 114p/kg for a 274kg sow with another at 92p/kg for a 315kg sow.

DAIRIES TO £2720

12 £2000+

 A real bouncy trade for
milkers on Tuesday probably reflecting the quality on offer from vendors saw
the best to £2720 and nearly 50% of the entry pass the £2000 mark.

 The Easom family of
Oakerthorpe had a lovely run of 7 in topping the day at £2720 with others to
£2680, £2280, £2140, and £2120 respectively.

 The Johnson family of Longnor
also had a great run of heifers forward making £2540, £2350, £2420 and £2410.

 Andrew Broadley saw his
heifer reach £2280 with another from Phillip & Marilyn Critchlow of Cubley
at £2200.

 The herd dispersal of 100+
Holsteins on behalf of C Sherwin topped at £1780.

 The Monthly Pedigree Sale in
a fortnight is shaping up into a big one with numerous vendors with 12 plus fresh
heifers entered. There will also be two Herd Dispersals on the same day.

cattle purchased onto that holding from a high-risk area (as mapped at 
https://tbhub.co.uk/)
must be Post-Movement Tested. I.e. Cattle must be
Post-Movement tested 60 to 120 days after purchase on your holding. For more
details, please speak to our Market Office.

Customers selling Livestock at Leek Auctions must have
fully completed movement forms which declare what TB-test interval takes place
on your holding so that we can pass this information onto the purchasers.
