Good to see more forward, and they met a solid trade for all, seeing a top price of 230p/kg for a 630kg Hereford, a 655kg Charolais at 224p/kg and a 595kg Hereford at 222p/kg, all from Home Farm, Rushton Spencer.

Black & white’s to 187p/kg for a 775kg Holstein from J G Curtis & Son, Basford and 187p/kg for a 860kg Monty from TG Adams & Son, Calwich.

TOP OF £3900 – 31 OVER £2000
Another strong trade for Dairies on Tuesday saw 31 of the 65 Milkers pass the £2000 mark topping at a record £3900.

A superb show of cattle from D N Carter & Co of Rugby attracted massive interest topping at a record breaking £3900 for a fantastic heifer by Mr Frazzled Aristocrat. She went to Andrew Hulme of Basford who also took another heifer by the same bull at £2900.

The Aristocrat daughters were very impressive with another reaching £3250 to Arthur Mayer of Brown Edge who also went on to take a Mr Gen R-Rapid Haze daughter at £3000. Their whole entry averaged a superb £2133.

Two commercial heifers from Messrs Needham of Heaton reached £2400 and £2360.

More pigs forward this week with 141 on offer. Fat pigs slightly down on the previous week nonetheless still a strong trade with quality pigs forward frequently 185p/kg+. Top price 197p/kg for a pen of 86kg pigs from JG Belfield, Sheen. Better quality sows forward topping at 95p/kg for a 264kg sow from RT Wilson, Oldham.

Porkers a strong trade topping at 193p/kg for a 74kg gilt from S Bailey, Knypersley. J&B Fentem saw 177p/kg for a 72kg pig and 172p/kg for 68kg pigs. J Ball, Betchton had a 72kg pig to 175p/kg

Cutters topped 196p/kg for 81kg pigs from J Ball, Betchton. JA&B Minshull, Buxton had an 81kg pig realising 195p/kg. J&B Fentem, Allsop En-le Dale saw 188p/kg for 84kg pigs. R Brough, Pikehall saw an 82kg pig to 179p/kg.

Baconers topped at 197p/kg for 197p/kg for a pen of 86kg pigs from JG Belfield, Sheen. Massie Farms, Stafford had 196p/kg for 93kg pigs, others from the same home realised 195p/kg x2, 194p/kg x3. R Rowlinson saw 196p/kg for 96kg pigs.

Heavy pigs topped at 157p/kg for a 107kg pig from PF+PD Parsons, Whitchurch. J&B Fentem had a pen weighing 107kg to 155p/kg. SJ Booth, Lymm had a 128kg pig to 132p/kg and a 155kg pig to 129p/kg.

Sows Topped at 95p/kg for a 264 kg sow from RT Wilson, Oldham, another 243kg sow from the same home realised 90p/kg. A 248kg sow from RA Watson, Fenny Bentley realised 76p/kg.

A reduced entry, which is a shame as trade was electric from start to finish with all grades and weights a sharper trade.

Best on offer to 333p/kg and best heavy lambs at £174/head. Plenty at 300p and above for the best shaped.

Overall average at 265p/kg and SQQ of 270p/kg.

CULL SHEEP (384);
Best ewes very fast indeed, back over £200/head with a top of £202 for an excellent Texel ewe from Martin Lancaster. Plenty at £160 and better for the right goods and best Suffolks to £170, Charolais to £192 and Mules to £128.

Light weight ewes however more difficult to sell in places and certainly no dearer.

The overall average comes in at £98.75. Best rams to £174 to average £121 for 13 on offer.

Another excellent entry of 149 in the calf section met a packed ring of prospective buyers. The best 10 bulls all over £250/head with top 10 heifers over £200/head with both including native breeds.

Buyers for all types with British Blues taking the headlines with a 2 month old from the Handford family topping at £395 and top 10 averaging £298.
