Market Report Tuesday 25th March

A bumper entry of sheep on offer with 1690 head on offer. Ewes were the highlight of the day with a pure Texel achieving £395 with averages an impressive £195.52!! Hoggs topped at 420p/kg with a top headage price of £205.10.

Barrens topped at 276p/kg with a top gross at £2092.50, seeing the overall average to 233.37p/kg or £1488.88/head.

More pigs on offer this week, seeing a top price of 201p/kg for fat pigs.

Still plenty on offer in the calf shed seeing a British Blue bull to £635 and an Aberdeen Angus heifer to £415.

Less on offer in the Dairies this week and more required to meet demand. Two heifers topped the market at £2780 and £2720.

Another very firm trade with excellent prices achieved. Top price of the day was 276p/kg for a 690kg Simmental cow from D Tomlinson of Buxton to gross £1904.40.

A 775kg Flekvieh cow from WG & J Clerk of Bradnop achieved 270p/kg to gross £2092.50. WK Hurley of Macclesfield realised 268p/kg for a 645kg cow and a 730kg Black & White from RG & AS Williamson changed hands for 257p/kg.

CLEAN CATTLE A 595kg Saler heifer from S Kidd Farmers was well sold to 290p/kg to gross £1725.50.

More pigs about this week with nearly double the entry, top price 201p for fats and sows to 99p and 117p for a clean gilt.

Fat pigs generally 190p+ fat gilts and boars 160p+.

Less forward bur a cracking trade with more needed to satisfy demand.

Topping the day was new vendors Messrs Wood of Cuthorpe, their two heifers reached £2780 and £2720 with two more promised for next week.

Frank Cookson of Lymm saw his three heifers reach £2620, £2300 and £2270 respectively.

If fresh milk is what you need, then save Tuesday 1st April in your diary – 120 to sell from David Wrench of Marton which includes 54 fresh heifers and 50 very strong heifers, all due in the Autumn.
