A noticeably quieter day today across all sections with the hot weather upon us.

Less barrens about today, in line with the rest of the market.

Top headage price of the day was £1844.40 for a Hereford cow, selling to 232p/kg for J & J Housley of Grindon who also had another Hereford cow selling to the top ppk of the day at 236p to gross £1357.

Newly Calved Cows 2nd -4th Calf to £1900
A Mixed entry with new vendors present which was good news for all.

The milker entry included the start of the dispersal for Morson Bros at Hartington.

Top call £1900 for the Morson’s for a 2020 born cow giving 38kg with other milkers at £1880.

A lorry load of in-calf heifers from Nottinghamshire saw spirited bidding with the better goods regularly £1900 and above for heifers due July to end of August, mainly to the Angus bull and a top of £2000.

Purchasers note: a run of in-calf heifers from a retiring local vendor next week, details to follow!

Generally, a smaller entry as expected for a Bank Holiday Tuesday but good demand throughout.

A smaller entry met a faster trade.

Best lambs flying away to 577p/kg and plenty at 520p/kg and better. Best big lambs grossing £234/head.

Overall average very strong at 496p/kg and £205.63/head.
