Top price achieved in the barrens today was £2086 for a 745kg Holstein which sold to 280p/kg for WE Turnock & Sons, Onecote.

Plenty more barren cows could be sold each week.

A 965kg Hereford bull grossed at £2412.50, selling to 250p/kg for TEH Bold & Sons of Cotton.

CLEAN
An Aberdeen Angus steer weighing 690kg grossed at £2318.40, selling to 336p/kg, for TJ Partington of Burton on Trent. The same vendor also had a 545kg Hereford steer grossing £1831.20, also selling to 336p/kg.

Overall average was 336p/kg or £2074.80/head.

Vendors well rewarded and some buyers going home empty handed.

Top call £2320 for a strong pedigree heifer, sold giving 33kg from regular exhibitor David Brailsford at Ashover.

Plenty of cattle £2000 and above with the Kennerley family netting £2220 for a 32kg fresh heifer born February ’24.

Fresh cows to £1900 and heifers to £2320.

A good entry sold on another solid trade with best lambs still attracting a premium and grass-fed lambs harder to place but still adding up well.

Best sold to 432p and plenty at 400p and better. Best shaped lambs very well bid for and more could be sold.

Commercial lambs generally trading 345p – 380p depending on finish but heavier types easier to sell well.

Overall average at 370p/kg or £162/head but generally a better show of quality.

A superb show of quality today with bidding and top prices to match, more could easily have been sold. Top call £910 for a strong British Blue bull. 76 bulls average £506 right through, including 14 Black & Whites.
