Market Report Tuesday 29th April

The calf shed is simply on fire with a stunning British Blue bull hitting an incredible £890!! A British Blue topped the heifers at £685.

Just short of 1,000 head of sheep on offer with Spring Lambs up to 412p/kg, Hoggs to 391p/kg and Ewes to £226/head.

Small entry of dairies on offer but a brisk trade with a heifer hitting the top spot at £2160.

A remarkable trade in the Barrens with a top price of 312p/kg and a top headage price of £2450.

Pig trade slightly less on the week with more around, seeing a top price of 191p/kg.

A short entry but a remarkable trade, seeing a 715kg Limousin X cow from HG Nutter selling for 312p/kg to gross £2230.80.

A 625kg Black & White young cow from W & A Carbutt achieved 306p/kg to gross £1912.50.

The heaviest cow of the day, from WE Turnock & Sons, at 875kg, sold for 280p/kg to gross £2450.00 with a 655kg Black & White from JAS Agricultural selling for 281p/kg and a 565kg Hereford from ET Simpson achieved 280p/kg to gross £1582.00.

Overall average was 252.88p/kg and £1524/head.

CLEAN CATTLE
A clean Limousin heifer from Nigel Gibbs, weighed 555kg and sold for 376p/kg to gross £2086.80.

A fantastic trade for the quality forward saw a very sweet heifer from John & Shirley Kirkham reach £2160.

Older cows topped at £1900.

More milkers are needed to satisfy demand with many purchasers going away empty handed.

Unbelievable, with new buyers around looking for calves and every calf looking more money. Prices peaked at a RECORD £890 for a smart British Blue bull (30 days) from David Clowes, Dilhorne with Daz Tudor at £770 and P J Davies at £680. Limousin from David Wainwright at £725 with five more over £600. Medium bulls £460 – £550 with just four under £400.
