Market Report Tuesday 29th August

A quiet Tuesday in Leek after the Bank Holiday Weekend but a solid entry of Lambs with better trade than anticipated with best Lambs to 310p/kg.

 A small entry of Barren Cows entered, seeing a top price of 180p/kg for a 600kg Holstien, still getting a good compliment of buyers, seeing a firm trade. More cattle needed.

 Pigs remain a very strong trade with Fats to 244p/kg and averages looking a healthy 235p/kg

  Small dairy entry this week reflecting the uneasiness in the Dairy industry. Top price of £1740 realised for S Greenall

111 Calves entered this week with British Blue heifers seeing a particularly good trade.

 BARREN COWS (14);

Selling time – 10:00am

Auctioneer – Graham Watkins (07976 370894) A small entry for the Bank Holiday Tuesday saw a good compliment of buyers and another firm trade.

Top price was 180p/kg for a 600kg Holstien from WE Turnock and Sons with the same price per kg for a 580kg average steer from Messrs Salt of Hollington.

179p/kg for a Simmental 635kg Cow     Ipstones

170p/kg for a Charolais 730kg Cow       Werrington

167p/kg for a Charolais 765kg Cow       Werrington

Top headage prices were £1277.55 and £1241.00 for Charolais Cows.

Average was 148p/kg.

 CLEAN CATTLE

A small entry but plenty of trade. Freisian Bulls from JE Archer & Sons met with spirited bidding, selling up to 227p/kg for a 630kg bull with others at 580kg at 226p/kg, 545kg at 224p/kg and 590kg at 222p/kg

Top headage price £1430.10

A British Blue Steer from TJ Partington of Burton on Trent exchanged hands at 210p/kg to gross £1207.50 with a 600kg Hereford Steer from the same vendor achieving 196p/kg to gross £1176.00.

Trade remains on fire best fats to 244p/kg x2. Averages looking healthy at 235p/kg +. No sows today.

 Porkers on fire to 241p from J Ball, Sandbach.

Cutting pigs topped at 242p from J&B Fentem, others from thew same home to 241p, 240p, 239p. Boars to 230p.
PF+PD Parsons topped at 240p, 239x2p. J Ball had pigs to 240p & 238p.

Baconers topped at 244p from S Bailey & Massie Farms to 244p, 243×2, 242×3 240p. J&B Fentem topped at 241p & 240p . MC&E Beattie topped at 240p x2, 239p x2.

 Heavies topped at 190p from A Lockett for a 114kg pig and 140kg pig to 189p.

Another mixed days trading reflecting the current uneasiness within the Dairy industry.

Stuart Greenall of Tonsley topped the day at £1740 for a 6g Shield Red Daughter with Friesian types to £1630.

Another solid entry selling on a better trade than anticipated, with strong bidding particularly on the best shaped Lambs.

Best Lambs to 310p/kg and best types generally 275p/kg and better.

Overall average at a solid 256p/kg or £107/head.

A similar entry seeing a similar trade overall, but best Ewes slightly firmer on the week.

Overall average at £85.09, a reflection of the quality of the entry.

Exactly the same number forward as last week and the Blue Heifers a particularly good trade especially the best types.

Top call of the day £378 for a long shapely Simmental Bull, 32 days old from the Higginson Family at Mobberley.
