Market Report Tuesday 2nd April

The Easter Tuesday sale seeing good entries and a fast trade throughout, especially in the Spring Lambs with a top price of 600p/kg, Hoggs reaching 453p/kg and cull Ewes a pleasing £210/head.

Calves sold well with a British Blue Bull reaching £488 and a British Blue Heifer to £314.

Flying trade for Pigs with fats topping at 246p/kg and Sows topping at £250.08/head.

Once again, a strong trade in the Barrens seeing a top price of 183p/kg reaching a top headage price of £1637.85 for a 895kg Holstein.

A decent entry for Easter Tuesday and trade very similar.

A top price of 183p/kg was achieved for an 895kg Holstein, from SJ Hooley of Macclesfield, to gross £1637.85.

Two more Cows from the same farm sold for 180p/kg and 179p/kg at weights of 690kg and 695kg with a 640kg Holstein, from PN Holdcroft, achieving 174p/kg.

A 730kg Holstein, from A & JE Goldstraw of Waterhouses, sold for 169p/kg with a 610kg, from BE Wain of Siddington, at 174p/kg.

A modest entry sold on a flying trade for all types, top price 246p for fats and 114p for sows.

Porkers topped at 234p from J&B Fentem who had others at 224p.

Cutters sold to 235p from S Bailey, J&B Fentem had a run at 226p, 225p, 224p, 223p x2.

Baconers sold to 246p from J&B Fentem who had others to 245p, x2, 244p, 243p. C Hine sold to 241p, and C Blackshaw sold to 240p.

Heavy pigs topped at 238p or £254.66 from C Hine who had others to 224p, 213p.

Sows topped at 114p or £250.08 from J&B Fentem.

A small entry saw an electric trade and orders not able to get started.

Best to 600p/kg for RG & AS Williamson and an overall average of 572p/kg. Top headage of £272/head and an average of £236/head.

A very fast trade, as expected, as the end of the festival approaches. Generally a poorer quality entry and less very best types forward.

Best Hoggets in extreme demand, regardless of weight, topping at 453p/kg and a top headage price of £244.76/head.

A lot of commercial quality sorts in the entry, which were well bid for at 370p-395p/kg. This type dominated the entry.

Overall average at 387p/kg or £171.60/head.

Top price £210 for Texel ewes from J Beldfield & R Deakin-Gallimore, Tean.

Overall average £132.09

Tups topped at £190 from GJ Ruscoe, Goostrey and PJ Staden, Buxton also £190.

A good entry for the Bank Holiday week and trade strong.

The very best to £488 and £430 but these were extremely smart types.

Ray Turner took top honours with a British Blue bull at 23 days with the Myatt
family of Gratton Lane, again a British Blue, at £430.

Heifer calves topped at £314 for the Hulme Family of Basford, yet again with a British Blue.
