The trade was as hot as the weather in Leek on Tuesday!

Pigs on a blistering trade with competitive bidding throughout, seeing a top price of 244p/kg for fat pigs.

Similar story in the Lambs with a top price of 361p/kg with more required each week and £222/head in the Ewes.

Calves were once again on a roaring trade with a British Blue and a Simmental bull topping the day at £400 and a British Blue heifer topping at £370.

A smaller entry with many farmers busy in the harvest.

Trade was very similar with a top price of 180p/kg for an 645kg Shorthorn for GG Hall & Son with 177p/kg being paid for an 805kg Friesian cow for RG & AS Williamson and 174p/kg for a 615kg Holstein for WE Turnock & Sons.

Top headage price was £1424.85 for Friesians with Shorthorns up to £1198.50.

THEY GET EVEN DEARER, simply off the clock today, a smaller entry with quality on offer, again were met with fierce bidding. Fats topped at 244p or £297.00 and sows at 154p or £442.25.
Porkers topped at 237p from J&B Fentem and 220p.
Cutters topped at 240p from J&B Fentem who had others to 237p x2. B Minshull to 238p, 237p and 220p.
Bacon pigs topped at 244p from PF+PD Parsons who had others to 243p. Massie Farms to 240p x2, 239p x2, 238p. B Minshull to 239p, 238p x2. C Hine to 235p.
Heavies topped at 22p for C Hine for a 129kg boar and a 186kg boar from B Minshull sold to 160p or £297.60
Sows were just on another level with two good sows forward selling to 154p/311.08 for J&B Fentem and 145p/£442.25 for Ray Rowlinson.

A superb entry forward on what was a blisteringly hot day which was only matched by the trade which was on fire from start to finish.

A quality entry of commercials forward saw a top of £2860 for a 35kg heifer from Michael and Caroline Wainwright of Buxton with their 3 others reaching £2420, £2180 and £2100 to average £2390.

George Swindells of Chelmorton had a lovely run of four heifers which reached £2640, £2420 x2 & £2400.

A fantastic Swedish Red X second calver from Mick and Kay Hulse reached £2640, with a Montbeliarde X heifer making £2340 from the same home.

Plenty of trade within the herd dispersal saw a top of £2850 for a fresh Lakemead Jingle heifer with others to £2520, £2420, £2340, £2320, £2300 and £2280, the list goes on.

In-calf heifers topped at £2160 with Brown Swiss youngstock attracting particular interest with calves to £800, Yearlings to £910 and Bulling Heifers to £1010.

A shame not to have more forward given the level of demand we have every week.

The Lambs on offer were a solid trade from start to finish. The lean lightweight sorts going for further feeding but having downward pressure in the averages.

Best Lambs very well bid for. Best sorts to 361p/kg and heavy lambs topping at 353p/kg or £193.76/head.

Better types generally 320p-340p and many more could have been sold.
Overall average at 304.3p/kg or £132/head.

CULL EWES (111)
A modest entry was met with a strong trade. A good number of leaner sorts forward which are reflected in the averages, overall trade certainly up another gear. Many more ewes could have been sold to the vendors advantage, with buyers for all types.
Ewes Topped at £222 x2 for Texels from P Lomas, King Sterndale and from D Willaims Basford.
Better Texel types regularly £145 Plus
Mules topped at £146 and best mules were in the £120-140 bracket.
Feeding ewes traded between £80-90.
Tups topped at £175 for E Sherratt.
Overall average £123.54

CALVES (121)

Extra calves about again with Leek being the place at present to sell calves to the best advantage.
40 CONTINENTAL BULLS
As dear if not dearer than the last couple of weeks with the medium and smalls looking the best sold. Best as always, a joy to sell but not as many about. Nine best topped £370 and a couple at £400. Mediums unreal to sell £270-£350 with just eight smalls under £250.

Less heifers than bulls which is a shame as they are good to sell at present. A lovely British Blue topped the day at £370 for Messrs Wilkinson, Great Budworth. Six best over £270 with three over £300. Mediums £220-£260 with a handful of smalls under £200.
