A quieter Tuesday following the Christmas break with less cattle forward but a full sheep shed with 1459 forward.
A solid trade for barren cattle with a mixed entry forward, topping at 188p/kg or £1449.25 per head. Clean cattle in good demand with the best to 288p/kg or £1488.30 per head.
An excellent entry of hogget’s this week, seeing some strong prices up to 286p/kg twice or £157.38 per head. Cull ewes in good demand, topping at £188.
A small show of dairies sold up to £2300 for a fresh heifer.
Calves sold to a ring full of buyers with Blue Bulls to £370 and heifers to £240.
A strong trade for fat pigs and a quality entry sold up to 209p/kg for bacon pigs and some excellent prices throughout.

A good trade for the cattle on offer with 288p/kg for a 470kg Limousin heifer from R P Hall, Heaton who also sold a 500kg Limousin for 281p/kg. A 615kg Angus heifer sold for 242p/kg from Home Farm, Rushton Spencer.
Black & white bulls sold well at 221p/kg for a 610kg Friesian from J E Archer & Sons, Hilton who had others at 207p/kg and 200p/kg.
Heifers sold up to £1488.30, £1405 & £1353.60 and bulls to £1348.10 and £1273.05.

A nice entry forward for the first sale of 2023 saw a top price of £2300 for a 25kg heifer from June Sherratt of Meerbrook.
Close behind at £2240 was a sweet heifer from Messrs Phillips of Winkhill who saw their second heifer reach £2160.

A strong entry for the first sale of 2023 with some quality pigs on offer, trade still remains strong albeit a bit less than before Christmas, top price 209p/kg for a trio of 88kg pigs J&B Fentem Alsop en-le Dale. Numerous pens over the 200p/kg mark again. Well meated sows in demand topping at 89p/kg with plainer feeding types harder to place.
Porkers in demand top price 197p/kg for 74kg pigs from J&B Fentem J&B Fentem Alsop en-le Dale, who had others to 174p/kg & 158p/kg. R Buckley, Sheffield had 75kg pigs to 173p/kg and others to 154p/kg.
Cutting pigs topped at 208p/kg for an 80kg pig from JA&B Minshull, Buxton who had others to 195p/kg, 176p/kg & 173p/kg. J&B Fentem realised 197p/kg for 83kg pigs and S Bailey, Knypersley had a pair of 85kg pigs to 195p/kg.
Bacon Pigs in very strong demand once again, top price 209p/kg for a trio of 88kg pigs J&B Fentem, who had others to 207p/kg for 92kg pigs. S Bailey had a 97kg pig to 208p/kg. Massie Farms Stafford had a run at 206p/kg, 204p/kg & 197p/kg. M R Banham, Bromsgrove had 90kg pigs to 203p/kg.
Heavy pigs a strong trade once again top price, 197p/kg for 106kg pigs from Massie Farms. R T Wilson, Oldham had 114kg pigs to 197p/kg, 115kg pigs from the same home realised 168p/kg.
Sows have picked up with a top price of 89p/kg for a 246kg sow from R T Wilson who had another to 67p/kg for a 283kg sow. M R Banham saw 58p/kg for a 184kg sow.

Farm for the Future
The next round of the Prince’s Countryside Fund ‘Farm for The Future’ programme has begun! If you have not yet signed up there is still time to do so, participants from last time may take part again. Please get in touch to join.
Our first event will be taking place in January starting with an Environmental Workshop from Chris Seabridge of Seabridge Associates on how policy changes will affect your farm, tools and advice for moving forward, plus financial and practical opportunities within ELMs. There are two dates and venues for this talk: The Bentley Brook Inn at Fenny Bentley at 7pm on 12th January 2023 or The George Inn at Tideswell at 7pm on 18th January 2023.
