Market Report Tuesday 5th March

The first Tuesday Sale of March and the sun was shining. Good number of entries in the Calves with plenty of potential buyers around the ring, seeing Bulls top at £450 and Heifers to £320.

Trade was on Fire in the Sheep Section, once again seeing entries over the 1,300 mark, with a top of 420p/kg and a top headage price of £228.48.

More Barrens on offer this week with a top price of 195p/kg and a top headage price of £1530.

Mixed quality on offer in the Dairies, with milkers topping at £2080.

More forward this week met with a pleasing trade, top call 195p for a 620kg Friesian cow from B Poyser of Onecote. Roston Farms saw 190p for a 660kg British  Blue cow and BP & JR Needham had a 770kg Holstein cow to 189p.

Top headage £1530 from a Nottingham vendor for a 860kg Holstein.
Others to £1459, £1479 & £1399.

Well, what a difference one week makes. Less pigs on offer with only a 63 head forward. Top price for fats 221p. Sows topped 98p.

Cutters topped at 217p twice from JG Belfield, Sheen and 195p for boars. J&B Fentem topped 216p twice.

Baconers topped at 221p from C Hine with others to 207p. J&B Fentem to 214p, 212p. JA&B Minshull 209p. RT Wilson, Oldham sold pigs to 209p, 208p, 207p.

Heavies to 168p for R Watson, Chester.

MILKERS TO £2080

A mixed quality bought a mixed trade yesterday highlighting the fickleness of the dairy trade as a whole on a week-by-week basis.

Topping the day was a sweet heifer from Andrew Mills of Ratcliffe on Wreake at £2080 with another from David Brailsford of Chesterfield reaching £1940.

A very pleasing overall average of 351.37p/kg or £151.35/head.

£200.
