A wintry Tuesday sale for the first sale of the year but trade didn’t seem to be too affected.
A few less sheep on offer, which was to be expected with the weather but those on offer were rewarded with an excellent trade seeing Hoggs up to 369p/kg and Ewes up to £130/head.
Dairies topped at £2820 for a second calver for the Easom Family.
Plenty of calves on offer with 135 forward, with two Limousin bulls topping the day at £480 and a British Blue topping the heifers at £410.
More Pigs forward, seeing a top price of 200p/kg for fat pigs.

A small entry due to inclement weather saw plenty of trade, up to 193p/kg for a 42-month-old Holstein, weighing 670kg from WE Turnock & Sons.
A foreign tagged Holstein, weighing 725kg, from NG & J Clarke of Bradnop, achieved 164p/kg and another 750kg crossbred sold to 155p/kg.
Top headage price was £1293.10.
CLEAN CATTLE
An entry of Friesian Bulls from regular vendor JE Archer & Sons of Hilton topped at 259p/kg, weighing 525kg, with other similar bulls at 255p/kg, 254p/kg and 253p/kg.
Top headage price was £1415.25.

A great start to the New Year in spite of the Staffordshire weather.
Vendors were well rewarded with the Easom Family topping the day from their Broomhouse Herd at £2820.
The Easom, Hulse and Bennett Families all had cattle £2200 or above with the top four milky strong heifers averaging £2280and an exceptional run of strong cows, seeing the top five average exactly £2506 per head.
As detailed, Oliver Easom topped the day with his Broomhouse second calver giving 44kg with excellent stature, she went on to sell to Henry & Carol Bloxham at Stafford.
Plenty of bidders for stronger types with heifers topping at £2540 for the Easoms and others at £2360 for Edward & Diane Bennett.
Mick & Kaye Hulse topped at £2240 with a smart run of four milky cattle.
Grazing type cows to £1720 for the Kennerlys at Lower Withington.
IN the in-calf heifers, Richard Lomas of Chesterfield saw spirited bidding to £2040 for 29-month-old strong Holsteins, in-calf to named sire Aberdeen Angus.

A snowy day saw a reduced entry following an eventful weekend. Those forward were rewarded with an excellent trade and competition on all types and weights.
The best types sold to 369p/kg and plenty at 350p and better. Best big lambs to £195/head, with 53 overweight types averaging £178/head.
Overall average at 334p/kg for a mixed sample in terms of quality, and average of £148.30/head.

A much smaller show of ewes as expected given the recent poor weather conditions. Trade definitely dearer on the week and many more could be sold each week. Meated ewes very good to sell with buyers looking to secure meat. Once again, a good number of hill types forward with over 50 welshies forward.
Best texels topped at £250 for Roger Bailey, Robin Smith to £206 twice, D Williams to £205. A Williams to £180 x2, J Tavernor to £170 & £169. Christine Gilman to £165.

The best as good if not better than ever but the smaller calves looked better value today. Two tremendous Limousin bulls (5wks) topped the sale and finished at £480 each for Norman Mellor & Family, Sterndale. Best £320+; Mediums £240-£300 with smaller or plainer bulls under £200.
