100% clearance throughout the market this week but a quiet day in some sections as people are making hay whilst the sun is shining!

Top headage price in the barrens today was £1836.00 for a 765kg Friesian cow which sold to 240p/kg for SJ Hooley of Macclesfield.

A pair of Shorthorn cows weighing 605kg and 625kg sold to 266p and 258p/kg to gross £1609.30 and £1612.50 respectively.

CLEAN
Hereford steers topped the clean cattle, selling to 334p/kg to gross £2070.80 for TJ Partington of Burton on Trent.

Cutters to 205p for OJ Davies, Holyhead who had others to 200p and boars to 140p. J McAleenan to 160p.

Bacon pigs sold to 192p for Massie Farms who had others to 188p, 187p, 186p. B Minshull to 188p. J&B Fentem to 183p, 178p, 172p.

Heavies to 170p for C Hine, M Banham 132p.

Excellent trade in the dairy shed.

A very smart entry forward this week and trade just as good as recent weeks with all the powerful milky cattle £2700 and above and only one animal in the entry below £2050.

The Easom family showed eight very good cows and heifers from their Broomhouse herd with a top of £3550 for a well statured second calver sold locally giving 50kg.

The best four high yielding cows averaged a very pleasing £3412.50.

Heifers topped at £3000 from the Easom’s, sold giving 34kg with Stuart Greenall at Crich receiving £2950 for his May ’23 born 30kg heifer3

The top six heifers averaged £2778.

More cattle needed to fulfil demand with the Pedigree catalogue out before the sale on the 21st of the month.

A small entry as hay making takes priority for some vendors saw a very pleasing trade compared to prices quoted elsewhere.

Best sorts very well bid for, to a top of 438p/kg from Alan Wilshaw and family and plenty at 420p and better. Best big lambs to £222.36.

Two tier trade emerging with the poorer shaped grass-fed lambs harder to place.

Overall average very pleasing at a whisker below 400p/kg and £175/head.

Eleven better bulls still made £700 and above including two over £800 for two six-week-old British Blues for returning Sally Shone, Bradnop who made £815 and £805.
