Market Report Tuesday 8th October

Another solid trade for the calves this week with 139 on offer seeing a British Blue bull topping at £445 and a British Blue heifer at £300

The dairy shed saw a good trade for milkers, topping at £3000. Lots of entries forward for next weeks Pedigree Sale, see advert below

1,112 head of sheep on offer, seeing a sharper trade with best lambs topping at 330p/kg

Another strong trade, seeing a top price of 212p/kg for a Dairy Shorthorn from Gilmans Ltd of Thorpe, weighing 650kg.
A 675kg Friesian, from RG & AS Williamson of Wetley Rocks, achieved 198p/kg and a 765kg Holstein, from WE Turnock & Sons at 197p/kg.
Another 730kg Holstein, from WE Turnock & Sons, achieved 185p/kg with a 775kg Holstein, from Gilmans Ltd selling for 178p/kg with an 845kg Aberdeen Angus from WG & M Myatt realising 177p/kg.

Top headage price was £1507.05 for Holstein, £1495.65 for Aberdeen Angus and £1378.00 for Dairy Shorthorn.

A 55-month-old Simmental steer, from CH Day & Sons, was well sold at 193p/kg to gross £1389.60.

CLEAN CATTLE
A 660kg Hereford steer, from Hambleton Bros of Calton, achieved 241p/kg, being bought by a local butcher with 236p/kg being paid for a 480kg Limousin heifer, from G Baskerville & Co of Kings Bromley and 224p/kg for a 515kg Aberdeen Angus from the same vendor .

Young bulls, from Gilmans Ltd of Thorpe, were bid for keenly at 240p/kg for a 505kg Hereford X and 231p/kg for a 550kg Montbeliarde.

A larger entry today selling to a similar trade to last week, top price for fat pigs 205p, generally gilts 195-205p, boars 10p less plainer types 150p+. Sows looked a sharp trade topping at 90p.

Cutters sold to 202p for PF+PD Parsons and J&B Fentem, who had others to 200p, 192px2, 190p. RA Watson to 170p.

Bacon pigs sold to 205p for Massie Farms who had others to 203p, 202p x2 and 195p. J&B Fentem to 204p, PF+PD Parsons to 203p, 202p and 200p. B Minhsull saw 200p and 198p for boars. JLR Ball saw 195p for boars.

Heavies were met with a solid trade selling to 192p for A Shinton for 105kg pigs who had 106kg boars to 172p. B Minshull to 170p and Abbotsholme school had 122kg – 164kg boars from 112p – 142p.

Sows topped at 90p for J&B Fentem who had another at 82p. R Rowlinson to 88p and M Paddock to 62p.

Dairies to £3000

A good trade for milkers despite some mixed quality forward, saw the best to £3000 for a Siemers Darwin daughter from the Stubbs family of Tisssington.
They had a second heifer to £2200.

David Brailsford of Chesterfield saw his 31kg heifer reach £2300.

A couple of busy weeks coming up with a great entry of 70 for the pedigree sale next week and the herd dispersal on behalf of the Shuker family the week after (see both adverts below).

Lightweight and under finished lambs seeing competitive bidding for further finishing but impending in the average.

The average coming in at 277p/kg, being well in line with other outlets.
