There was a total entry of 7,579 Store Lambs and Breeding Sheep on offer.
Store Lambs
A total of 4,247 store lambs exchanged hands at a sharper trade than a fortnight ago, with a good company of buyers in attendance from a wide area.
Top price for store lambs was £150 paid for Suffolk ewe Lambs, from P & M Hayward & Son of Chapel en le Frith, with other Suffolk Ewe Lambs sold in the store section up to £148 from John Barber of Quarnford, £145 and £143 from Messrs Hayward of Chapel en le frith.
£143 was also paid for a pen from Judith Belfield of Macclesfield Forest and £140 for a pair of Suffolk ewe lambs from Philip Hooley of WIldboarclough.
Mixed Suffolk lambs topped at £107 from Philip Hooley and £104.50 from John Barber of Quarnford.
Overall average achieved for Suffolk lambs was £114.30.
Texel ewe lambs, from Messrs Hayward of Chapel en le Frith, sold up to £146 with another pen from the same vendor at £136 and a pen from Geoff Nutter of Grindon at £121.
Mixed Texel lambs, from Wayne Smith of Basford, sold up to £140 with Texel X lambs from Messrs Wain of Upper Hulme selling up to £119 and £118 from Joe Austin of Parwich.
A pen of good Shaped Texel lambs, from A, H, and T Carr of Waterfall being particularly well sold at £115.50.
There were several other pens of Texel mixed lambs selling above £110 a piece with the average for Texels being £95.72.
Charollais mixed lambs, from MW Woodward of Whiston, topped at £114 with a pair from S Beech of Uttoxeter at £112.50.
Beltex lambs, from David Naylor of Castleton, sold up to £110 and £107 from R Simpson & Sons of Longnor.
Gritstone mixed lambs, from JE Watkins of Horton, topped at £94 with Lleyn lambs, from ES Bennison of Stockport, at £94, Blue Texel lambs from G A Mallinson up to £102
Mule wether lambs from M Riley of Newtown topped at £96 with £92 being paid for pens from Edward Williams of Combs and also from James Deaville of Newtown.
Oxford mixed lambs from Katie Bradbury of Onecote sold up to £95.50.
Overall average achieved for store lambs was a pleasing £95.22
Ewe Lambs
There were 2618 breeding Ewe lambs sold in the top shed with some very pleasing prices achieved, seeing Texel X ewe lambs from D Holland of Blore at £205 with other Texel ewe lambs up to £202 from Neil Richardson of Reapsmoor, £182 from Messrs Lowe of Hulme End (twice), £172 from S Edge of Ballidon, £172 also from Alan Hayes of Alstonefield.
Several other pens made in excess of £140/head to produce an average of £128.
Best quality Mule ewe lambs, from R & L White of Turnditch, topped at £188 with another pen from Mycock and Bright of Buxton at £186, a pen from Ron Critchlow and Family of Hartington at £180 with a number of other pens, again in excess of £140.
Welsh Mule ewe lambs from Ian and Tracey Gregory of Peak Forest sold up to £178 with Masham ewe lambs from John and David Kidd of Quarnford at £118
Suffolk ewe lambs from Ian and Tracey Gregory of Peak Forest, topped at £160 with three pens from Alan Hayes of Alstonefield at £150
Ewe lambs from John Kirkham of Hartington up to £145.
Overall average acheived for all breeds was £127.35
Shearlings & Ewes
There were 649 Shearlings on offer with best quality continuing to meet a strong demand up to £250 for a pen from E Morten & Sons of Barmoor Clough with the same vendor selling other pens of Texel shearlings to £240, £235 and £230.
Mule shearlings from Philip Williams of Tean topped at £240 with other pens from the same vendor at £235 and £230 with Cheviot shearlings, again from Philip Williams up to £235.
Average for Shearlings was £185.72.
Ewes
There were 65 other breeding ewes which topped at £170 for mixed ewes from DTE Eco Ltd of Uttoxeter and a pen og Gritstone from C Robertson at £145.
