A total entry of 6,747 Store and Breeding Sheep were on offer with buyers and vendors continuing to attend from a wide area. The new sale ring was in operation, receiving positive comments from both vendors and buyers alike.
Store Lambs
There were 5,710 Store Lambs on offer with trade much firmer than a fortnight ago with an excellent average of £95.42 being achieved including a good number of smaller long-term lambs.
Top price of the day was £138 paid for Texel lambs from Andrew Henshall & Family of Fairfield who sold other Texels for £136 with K & ME Hall & Sons of Croxden achieving £128.50 for another pen of Texels.
Forty Texel lambs, from Messrs Hill of Onecote, were well sold at £127 with Messrs Stevenson of Derby realising £125 and £124 for two more pens of Texels.
Other Texels sold for £124 from Messrs Wild of Chinley, £122, £121.50, £120 with several pens making in excess of £115.
The average for Texel lambs was £101.29.
Blue Texel lambs, again from Andrew Henshall & Family, topped at £121.50 with Charollais lambs from Clive Grindey of Adlington up to £118,with Suffolk lambs, from the Hayward Family of Chapel en le Frith,
achieving up to £117.50, £117 and £116.
Another pen of Suffolks, from G Frodsham of Upper Hulme, achieved £114.50.
Beltex lambs from Norman Eardley of Macclesfield achieved up to £112 and £104 from Ben Vernon of Rocester.
Cheviot lambs from A T Cooper of Sheffield achieved up to £110.50, Southdown lambs, from V M Hanley of Stockport, at £109.50 and £109 with Oxford lambs from S B Mellor & Sons of Winkhill, topping at £108 with others from R & M Phillips & Sons of Buxton at £104.
Twin lambs from Clive Grindey of Adlington, achieved up to £104.50 with Swale wether lambs from J M Cottrill &Sons of Hope Valley up to £61 with Mule wether lambs from J T Cantrill of Macclesfield Forest being in good demand topping at £107, £95 from Mrs Burrows of Macclesfield and £94 from Richard Marples to produce an average of £77.09.
Ewe Lambs
388 Breeding Ewe Lambs were on offer, these achieved up to £154 for Texel ewe lambs from
Messrs Lowe of Hulme End with others from the same vendor at £148, £138 from Mr Holland of
Blore (twice) and £136 from S & D Fearn od Wardlow Mires.
Mule ewe lambs, from Louise Frith of Thorpe, sold up to £142 with others from the same vendor at £130 and £126 from Messrs Fox of Buxton.
Overall average achieved for ewe lambs was £103.40.
Shearlings
There were 398 Shearlings on offer with the top price of the day being £235 for a pen of Texels from Messrs Lowe of Hulme End (twice) with other Texels from Geoff Robinson of Upper Hulme at £205, £200 from E Morten & Sons of Barmoor Clough (twice) with Mules up to £230 from Helen White of Snelston (twice).
Suffolk shearlings from DW Fox of Buxton sold up to £205.
Herdwick shearlings from John Painter achieved up to £168 with other Herdwick from the same vendor at £155.
Average for Shearlings was £158.05.
Ewes
There was 248 Breeding and Grazing Ewes, these topped at £172 for Dutch Spotted Correct ewes from B Dicken of Buxton with Texel ewes from Trevor Ede of Uttoxeter at £152 and Suffolks up to £150 from S Chadwick. Millenium correct ewes, from Sam Barber of Blore, sold up to £148 with Mashams up to £138.
Overall average achieved for ewes was £102.64.
