There were 2,183 Store & Breeding Sheep on offer with the majority being Store Lambs, which were a very firm trade indeed, with some sorts being approximately £10 – £20 per head dearer than the previous sale. There was a high proportion of long-term lambs on offer, affecting the overall average, which was returned at £108.89.
Store Lambs
Top price of the day was £152 paid for a pen of Texels from John Sadler & Family of Great Wyrley with another pen of Texels from Peter & Chris Palfreyman of Bakewell at £150 and Texels from Geoff Millington of Wincle up to £148.50.
Another pen of Texels from Matthew Wilmot of Matlock returned £147.50 as did a pen from a new vendor, Paul Weston of Mayfield, who also received £147.50 with Matthew Wilmot receiving £146 for a second pen.
There were several other pens around £140 per head.
Dorset lambs sold to £143 from Rebecca Henshaw of Buxton with Beltex up to £141.50 for Messrs Challinor of Dilhorne and Suffolks topping at £141 from D W Fox of Buxton.
Jacobs, from Russell Campbell of Cellarhead, sold up to £140, with Cheviots from AS Johnston of Biddulph at £129.
Aberfield lambs, from David Torr of Ilam, realised up to £122.50 with Zwartbles from Matthew Wilmot of Matlock at £120.
Continental lambs, from Messrs Twemlow of Swinscoe sold up to £119.50 and Gritstone lambs from Mrs Sally Ollerenshaw of Bradwell achieved up to £117.
Charollais lambs, from Cliver Grindey of Adlington, sold up to £116 and Lleyn lambs, also from Clive Grindey, sold up to £106.
Mule wether lambs, from Robert Belfield, sold up to £101 with Rough Fell lambs from Ann Porter of Cauldon Lowe at £98.
