There was 6,267 Store and Breeding Sheep on offer with a very fast trade indeed for store lambs producing an overall average of £92.74, up over £12 a piece on a fortnight ago.
Store Lambs (5,550);
There were 5,550 store lambs on offer with top prices of £125 for a trio of Border Leicester’s from M Mear, Cellarhead, with Texel mixed lambs sold up to £123 for a pen of 40 from B & K Stevenson of Quarndon, £119.50 for a pen from Graham Jones of Langley, £117 for a pen of Texels from the Mear Family of Cellarhead.
Other Texels from Miss F Taylor of Derby sold up to £116 with a pen of 17 Texel x from Graham Jones at £115 and £116 from Alan Hayes.
Texels from Brian Simpson of Grindon sold up to £113 with a pen of 44 Texels from Andrew Bowler at £111, Mrs Susan Pattinson of Weaver £110.50. Will Tomkinson of Calwich sold Texel’s at £110 with numerous other pens selling in excess of £110 a head.
Charolais lambs sold up to £112.50 for Ian Archer, Elkstones with Beltex x lambs from Robert Frith of Thorpe sold up to £111 with other Beltex up to £109 from T & JM White of Sheffield, Charolais at £109 from Stuart Coates of Fenny Bentley for a pen of 19.
Suffolk mixed lambs from Mrs Shirley Ridgeway of New Mills topped at £108 with others from Messrs Talbot of Whitmore at £107, DE & GM Storer of Winkhill at £106.50 and £106 for a pen of 10 Suffolks from Messrs Fox of Buxton.
Lleyn mixed lambs from Steven Edwards of Bottomhouse sold at £107.50 with Mule wether lambs up to £102.50 from H Wainwright of Pott Shrigley and £102 from Robert Belfield of Hurdlow.
It was a particularly strong trade for all types of lambs including those closes to finishing and also the longer term lambs with the average being a superb £92.74 overall.
Ewe Lambs (420);
A strong trade for ewe lambs with some good sorts forward topping the day at £148 for 5 pure bred Texel ewe lambs from R Jones, Whaley Bridge, with other Texel’s to £140 for a pen from A P Leason, Ilam, and £128 from R Hudson, Longnor, £122 for a pen from S J Kirkham, Hartington and £120 from S Rushton, Freehay.
A pair of Cheviot ewe lambs made £144 from Pilkington Farmers, Hartington, with Frontera ewe lambs at £140 and £136 from LR & MJ Lowe, Hulme End.
Mule ewe lambs sold up to £109 for R Webster, Fenny Bentley with others to £100 and £96 from Geoff Tunnicliffe, Gradbach and others at £99 & £96 from I Spendlove.
Overall average of £97.19.
Shearling Ewes (143);
Numbers slowly getting less as the year goes on but another decent trade for shearlings with the top price being £300 for an excellent pen of pure bred Suffolks from Pilkington Farmers, Hartington and a trio of Pure Texel’s at £225 from Karen House, Congleton. A pen of Texel x shearlings realised £168 for S McMahon, Quarnford and £158 for a pen from C Needham, Foxt.
Mules sold up to £160 for a pen from David Naylor, Glossop who sold a further 2 pens for £158 and £152, with a pen of 6 at £155 for Josh Wright, Hartington.
Overall average of £147.20
A good entry forward including a flock dispersal met a good enquiry. Top price of £128 for Texel x ewes from M Wentworth & Partners, Elkstones who sold other Full Mouth Texels at £125 and £113. A pen of 16 correct Mules sold at £125 from Croots Farm Shop, Duffield, and a pen of 8 at £122 from FP & ST Sykes, Rainow.
A pair of Herdwick x BFL sold at £118 from JJ & K Cushing, Waterfall, other Herdwicks sold at £74 for correct ewes from R Martin, Upper Mayfield who also sold Jacobs at £92.
A pen of Lleyn ewes, correct underneath realised £90 from SW & J Edwards, Bottomhouse.
Grazing ewes being a mixture of Swale, Gritstone and Hill types generally £40 – £70
Overall average of £68.56.
