entry of 9591 Store and Breeding Sheep were on offer with trade for Store Lambs
continuing to be very strong and a similar average to a fortnight ago.
Store Lambs
There were 7284 Store Lambs on offer with a top price of £119 paid for Suffolk Ewe lambs from JH Belfield of Macclesfield Forest with £111 being paid for a pen of Suffolk Ewe Lambs from PJ Hooley of Wildboarclough and £106 paid for a pen from P & M Hayward & Son of Chapel en le Frith. Suffolk Wether Lambs from H Wainwright of Pott Shrigley sold up to £101, £97.50 from P & M Hayward & Son of Chapel en le Frith and £97 from G Wain of Brandside. There were several other pens of Suffolk Lambs over £90 per head to produce an average of £91.39.
Texel mixed Lambs from D Naylor of Castleton topped at £110 50 with other Texels from P & M Hayward & Son of Chapel en le Frith at £104, a pen from the Wain Family of Upper Hulme sold at £102 and a pen from JB Rowlinson of Ramshorn at £101.50. There were several other pens of Texels which exceeded £90 a piece with the average overall, including a number of smaller Lambs, being £83.94.
Blue Texels from CS & FA Burgess sold up to £96 to produce an average of £92.20 with Zwartble Lambs up to £79 from J Marshall of Biddulph Moor.
Charolais Lambs from C Grindey of Adlington sold up to £96 to average £81.46 with Lleyn Lambs from S Edwards from Bottomhouse to £91 and £86.50 to average £85.74.
Beltex Lambs from N Coxon of Ashbourne topped at £106 with a pen from A Carr & Family of Waterfall at £94 to average £89.38.
Oxford lambs from R & M Phillips & Sons of Buxton sold up to £95.50 and £91 to average £92.14.
Overall average for the store Lambs, including the smaller sorts was £81.64.
Ewe Lambs
There were 1166 Breeding Ewe Lambs on offer with Beltex X Texel Ewe Lambs from MJ Burnett of Rowsley selling up to £170 and Mule Ewe Lambs from J Turner of Ashbourne at £130, £120 was paid for a pen from J Burrows of Macclesfield (twice) and £118 from J White of Sheffield.
Average for Mule Ewe Lambs was £108.42.
Texel Ewe Lambs from S & D Fearn of Wardlow Miers sold up to £124 with pens from JB Rowlinson & Son of Ramshorn up to £120 and £119 (twice).
Average for Texel Ewe Lambs was £98.98.
Kerry Hill Ewe Lambs from I Spendlove of Belper sold up to £102 with Suffolk Ewe Lambs from MK Burnett of Rowsley up to £116 and Zwartbles up to £102 from E Meakin of Elkstones.
Overall average achieved for Ewe Lambs was £97.47.
Shearlings & Ewes
There were 596 Shearlings on offer with some excellent prices being achieved selling up to £250 for a pen of Texel Shearlings from J Naylor of Hulme End with E Morten & Sons of Barmoor Clough selling Texels up to £225, £210, and £200. Another pen of Texel Shearlings from C Wood of Cauldon Low sold up to £200 with Messrs Lowe from Hulme End selling up to £200 also and other pens from E Morten &
Sons at £195.
Overall average for Texel Shearlings was £176.36.
Mule Shearlings from A Hayes of Cromford realised up to £208 with a pen from J Kirkham of Hartington at £200 and another pen from A Hayes of Cromford at £198.
The average for Mule Shearlings was £167.89.
Suffolk Shearlings from C Bassett of Uttoxeter topped at £160 with Cheviot Shearlings for E Morten & Sons of Barmoor Clough at £210 and Continental X Shearlings from V & G Farming of Rushton Spencer at £190.
Dutch Spotted Shearlings from B Wardlaw of Congleton realised up to £180 with Blue Faced Leicester Shearlings from G Moss of Abbotts Bromley up to £170 and Jacob Shearlings also selling up to £170 from E Morten & Sons of Barmoor Clough (twice) to average £119.64.
Woodland Shearlings form J Pennington of Hyde sold up to £145.
Overall average for Shearlings was £164.18.
Ewes
There was 545 Breeding Ewes, and the top price was £205 for a pen of 2 crop Millenium Ewes from B Wardlaw of Congleton with other Beltex 2 crop Ewes from the same farmer sold at £180 and Rouge X Texels at £165.
Suffolk correct Ewes from C Bassett of Uttoxeter sold at £185 with Texel correct Ewes from M Richmond of Ashbourne at £188.
Overall average for Breeding Ewes, including a number of grazing sorts, achieved £88.21.
