Store & Breeding Sheep Sale Report 25th November

A total entry of 4,398 Store and Breeding Sheep were on offer, with the majority being Store Lambs, with 3,949 on offer.

There was a strong trade for the best quality Lambs, due to the time of year, there was a higher proportion of smaller long-term Lambs on offer which reduced the overall average to £79.20.

There was a good company of buyers around the ring with the top price being £126 for a Dutch Spotted Lamb from M G Tomlinson of Weston Underwood.

Texel Lambs sold up to £116 from K A Cope of Shenstone, with other Texels up to £109 for a pen of 40 from R Pickering of Belper, £107 for a pen of 29 from Messrs Hill of Onecote, £106.50 and £106 (twice) with others at £104 and £102.50.

The average for Texel Lambs was £81.50.

Blue Texel Lambs, from P & R Griffin of Butterton, sold up to £102, with Charolais Lambs up to £96 from Messrs Walker of Matlock, £94.50 from W E Turnock & Sons of Onecote and £94.50, also from Messrs Walker.

Lleyn Lambs from P & R Griffin of Butterton sold up to £88, with Beltex Lambs up to £116, from Ian Forrester of Trent Vale, for a pen of 10, £110.50 from J White of Bradfield and £109.50 for Messrs Eardley of Macclesfield.

Mule Wether Lambs were a firm trade, selling up to £87 50 from David Torr of Ilam, £85 from C S Edge of Ballidon and £83 from John Painter of South Wingfield to average £78.69.

Oxford Cross Lambs, from Messrs Heathcote of Rainow, sold up to £85 with Suffolk Lambs, from C Beresford of Wildboarclough, topping at £111.50, £108 from T N Belfield of Macclesfield and £107.50 from, Graham Sidebottom of Marple Bridge, to average £84.70.

Zwartble Lambs, from Matt Tomlinson of Weston Underwood, realised up to £104.

Cheviot Lambs, from David Beech of Burnaston, sold up to £87.

Ewe Lambs

There were 243 Ewe Lambs on offer, which topped at £122 for Mule Ewe Lambs from Mike Jones of Mongomery, with others at £102 (twice) from the same vendor.

Texel Ewe Lambs, from T Hallam of Chapel en le Frith, sold up to £90, also, the same price was achieved for Messrs Yarwood of Congleton, with Dorset Cross from Roy Driver of Glossop selling up to £88.

Average for Ewe Lambs was £75.20.

Breeding Ewes

There were 190 Breeding Ewes which sold up to £142 for a pen of Mule Shearlings from David Grigg of Rainow with Mule Ewes from the same vendor at £132 and Woodland, from Rob Ford of Onecote, at £104.

Breeding Rams

There were 11 Breeding Rams on offer, with a full mouthed Texel, from W Wright of Holland, exchanging hands for £320, a Texel Shearling Ram, from Pilkington Farmers of Hartington, at £300, a Cheviot Shearling, from the same vendor, at £280 and Texel Shearlings from Stuart Frith at £260 (3 times).
