There was 9,017 Store and Breeding Sheep on offer with a strong trade in all sections with store lambs being dearer than a fortnight ago, particularly for the stronger sorts.
Store Lambs (6389);
There were 6,389 store lambs on offer with top prices of £111 for Suffolk ewe lambs from Phillip Hooley of Wildboarclough with another pen of Suffolk ewe lambs from the same vendor at £107 and a pen of 20 Suffolk from Ben Sidebottom at £105.
Another pen of Suffolk ewe lambs from John Hine of Biddulph sold for £100.
Texel mixed lambs sold up to £106 from Mr Phillips of Buxton with another pen of Texel mixed lambs from Clive Grindey of Adlington at £105 with a second pen from the same vendor at £103.50 and a pen of 30 Texel from J B Rowlinson of Ramshorn at £100.
Other Texel ewe lambs from Stuart Frith of Thorpe sold up to £104 with another pen from the same vendor at £99.
Another pen of Texel mixed lambs from Helen Heath of Tarporley were well sold at £98 with a pen of 3 Texel X from Sue Henshaw of Fairfield at £99.
Beltex mixed lambs from N & AG Eardley of Macclesfield achieved up to £95 with Lleyn mixed lambs from Clive Grindey of Adlington at £94 and Charolais mixed lambs from Gavin Peach of Warslow at £92.50.
There were several pens of lambs selling in excess of £90 per head with Mule wether lambs from Geoff Tunnicliffe up to £8150 and Oxford mixed lambs from R & M Phillips & Sons of Buxton up to £88.50 and £84 for a second pen.
Overall average achieved for Store lambs was a pleasing £82.30
Ewe Lambs (949);
A good show of ewe lambs this Saturday with plenty of buyers looking for good quality lambs. Top price of £202 for an excellent pair of Blue Texel lambs from Chris Wood, Cauldon, with two pens of Texel lambs at £180 & £140 for J L Morris, Cresswell. Other Texel’s to £130 for S J Kirkham, Hartington, £121 & £120 for Will Tomkinson, Calwich and £120 for a pen from J B Rowlinson & Son, Ramshorn. £120 for a pen from J Lightfoot, Sproston and two pens at £118 for D V Holland, Blore and £118 for a pair from S J Hawkins, Youlgreave.
Suffolks topped at £116 for a pen of 10 from P L Heath, Bradnop, with another at £112 from the same home and £112 for GA & SM Wainwright, Bamford.
Mules topped at £114 for L J Mellor-Stones, Biggin, with Welsh Mules at £104 for M Kulik, Loppington. Plenty of Mule ewe lambs between £90 – £105.
Overall average of £95.20.
Shearling Ewes (1174);
An excellent entry of Shearlings this Saturday, topping the day at £182 for a pen of Texels from Ruth & Mark Lowe, Hulme End who sold others at £172 and £170. Other Texel’s at £180 & £178 for A P Leason, Ilam, and a run from E Morten & Sons, Barmoor Clough at £172, £170, £162 and £160 etc. A pen of 10 at £168 for N G Sidebottom, Marple.
North County Mules sold well to top at £175 for J & GJ Fryer, Horton who also sold another pen for £168 and £165. Other N.C. Mules made £156 for S A Hulme, Leek and Welsh Mules sold for £155 twice for D B Mycock, Middleton by Wirksworth.
Cheviots at £144 for M Wood, Warslow and Herdwicks to £140 for Ian Hooley, Ipstones.
Overall average of £142.80.
Plenty of Ewes forward with breeds for everyone. 4 Tooth Texels to £156 for B G Clarkson, Gawsworth, with other Texels at £111 from K & ME Hall, Croxden, £110 & £98 from Joe Peach, Warslow and £93 for N G Sidebottom.
Young 1 crop Mules from S Beresford, Wildboarclough sold to £152, £146, £144, £142, £140 and £135, with older tyres at £85 – £95 with grazing ewes generally between £60 – £80.
Overall average of £86.64.
