There was a total entry of 4,591 Store and Breeding Sheep on offer with the majority being Store Lambs of which there were 4,466.
Store Lambs
The entry included a high proportion of smaller, long-term lambs which influenced the overall average.
The best quality lambs were still a very firm trade, selling up to £150 for four Blue Texel store lambs from P & R Griffin from Butterton with other Texels up to £144 from Phillip Heath of Bradnop, £143.50 from Robert Hardy of Cauldon Lowe, £143 from Graham Jones of Langley, £136.50 from Ron Critchlow of Hartington with several other pens of Texels around £130 per head.
Zwartble lambs, from the Klucznik Family of Ipstones Edge, topped at £150 also, with other Zwartbles from the same vendor at £134.
Charollais lambs, from Messrs Walker of Matlock, were well sold at £142.50 with Suffolk lambs topping at £136.50 from C S Edge of Ballidon, £121.50 from Alan Wilshaw of Meerbrook and £118.50 from The Hayward Family of Chapel en le Frith.
Cheviot lambs, from L A Longden of Hope Valley, topped at £123, with others at £120 and £117 from Clive Hidderley of Ipstones.
Dorset lambs, from Miss R Henshaw of Fairfield, were well sold up to £121.50.
Lleyn lambs, from P & R Griffin of Butterton, sold up to £135.
Overall average achieved, including a high proportion of smaller lambs, was £101.41.
Breeding Rams
There was a small entry as anticipated, considering the time of year, with breeding Rams topping at £300 for a Texel shearling ram, from SJ Hudson of Ilam, with £260 being paid for a Cheviot Ram, from Michael Wain of Warslow, with Suffolk Ram lambs, from June Sherratt of Meerbrook, up to £280.
Ewes
Breeding Ewes sold up to £120 per head for Wensleydale ewes from Mrs N Hodkinson of Boundary with Wiltshire shearlings, from B Graves of Chesterfield, at £118. There was a high proportion of grazing ewes on offer.
