Store & Breeding Sheep Sale Report 5th September

4,652 Store Lambs and Breeding Sheep
There was an excellent company of buyers around the store lamb sale ring resulting in sharp bidding to see a top of £139 to average a pleasing £118, an increase of over £20/head on this sale last year. Another sharp trade is expected in the next sale, and entries are now invited for cataloguing purposes.

Texel lambs topped at £139 from A Hayes of Cromford

Cheviot lambs topped at £126.50 from Joe Austin of Parwich, Charolais lambs topped at £126.00 from M Woodward, Whiston, Dorset to £117.00 for Sally Hodgson of Chinley and Beltex to £125.00 for J J Smith of Cheddleton and £124.00 for P Maltby of Wardlow.

Shearlings
There were 1,082 on offer seeing a good trade for the best quality with Mule shearlings topping the market at £420 for W Allen of Butterton who had another pen to £370 with other Mules up to £360 (twice) from I Klucznik of Ipstones Edge and others as follows: –

Overall average for Mules was £281.42.

Texel shearlings from E Morten & Sons of Barmoor Clough sold to £355.00 with Hartwell Stud Farm of Stone achieving £355 also with others as follows: –

Average for Texel shearlings was £258.43.

Cheviot shearlings achieved up to £320 from C J Hidderley of Ipstones and £285 from ID & TJ Gregory of Peak Forest to average £273.25.

Suffolk shearlings topped at £305 from P Johnson of Stoke on Trent and £300 from ID & TJ Gregory of Peak Forest to average £238.66.

Welsh Mule shearlings sold up to £305 and £285 from ID & TJ Gregory of Peak Forest to average £278.33.

Ewe lambs topped at £184 for Texels from S & D fearn of Wardlow Mires with others to £180 from C M Rowlinson Ltd of Ramshorn.
