Store & Breeding Sheep Sale Report 6th September

A total entry of 4,801 Store Lambs and Breeding Sheep were on offer.

Store Lambs
3,245store lambs achieving a total clearance and a good company of buyers met a stronger trade than many people anticipated with blue tongue movement restrictions to Wales and the shortage of grass in many parts of the country.

The total average was a satisfying £96.67 per head.

Top price of the day was £131 for a pen of good shaped Texel lambs from Joe Austin of Parwich with other Texels as follows: –
£129 D & A Dickinson, Bradbourne
£126 A Heathcote, Macclesfield
£121 T & E mather, Brassington
£121 PJ & JA Wain, Upper Hulme
£119.50 E J Williams, Coombs
£118 A J Peach, Warslow

With several other pens over £110 per head.

Suffolk lambs topped at £130 from A & A Spooner of Macclesfield, £119.50 for L Wainwright of Bollington and £118 from A & A Spooner.

Beltex lambs achieved up to £121 and £120 for R E Smith of Cheddleton.

Kerry Hill lambs up to £121 from S J Hawkins of Middleton by Youlgreave.

Cotswold lambs up to £107 from R J & J Moore of Sandbach.

Mule wethers sold up to £111 from A & J Henshaw of Buxton.

Shearlings
There were 1,259 on offer seeing a good trade for the best quality with Mule shearlings topping the market at £315 for W Allen of Butterton with other Mules up to £270 from the Klucznik Family of Ipstones Edge and others as follows: –

£255 H White, Snelston
£255 GL Staley & Son, Ashbourne
£250 S Allen, Butterton

Overall average for Mules was £213.16.

Welsh Mule shearlings sold up to £250 from ID & TJ Gregory of Peak Forest at £235 from P H Williams of Tean.

Texel shearlings from J L Morris of Cresswell topped at £270 with others as follows: –

£260 E Morten & Sons of Barmoor Clough (twice).
£255 Renshaw & Brassington, Ashbourne
£250 D Ede, Cubley
£240 C Wood, Cauldon Lowe

Average for Texel shearlings was £188.78.

Suffolk shearlings topped at £265 from D Ede of Cubley and £245 for GA Cooper of Sheffield to average £215.40.

Cheviot shearlings achieved up to £265 from P J Williams of Tean, £265 from ID & TJ Gregory of Peak Forest and £240 for H White of Snelston to average £228.81.

Ewe lambs topped at £150 for Texels from S & D fearn of Wardlow Mires (3 times) with others to £148 (twice), £146 and £142.

Older ewes sold up to £170 for CJ Hidderley, Ipstones for Cheviot ewes with Mules to £130 for A Heathcote of Macclesfield and Jacobs to £115 for G & H Ashford of Stafford.
