2,150 store and breeding sheep were on offer with a majority being store lambs which continue to meet a very keen trade throughout.
The entry included a large proportion of small and second quality lambs.
Store Lambs
There were 2,046 store lambs on offer with a top price being £162 for a Suffolk for Wayne Smith of Cheddleton, with Texel lambs from David Wainwright and Family of Cold Eaton selling up to £153 for a bunch of twenty, with £150 being paid for a pen from John Goldstraw of Waterhouses, £149 for a pen of Texels from Morson Bros of Hartington and £146 for another pen from David Wainwright (twice). A number of other Texel lambs made in excess of £140 with Charollais lambs from Stephen Pye of Swythamley topping at £149 for a pen of 37, with another pen of 31, from the same vendor, at £141 and £140.
Ryeland X lambs from Steve Shenton of Cauldon Lowe were well sold up to £145, with Lleyn mixed lambs from Clive Grindey of Adlington up to £143, Beltex lambs from MG Tomlinson of Weston Underwood up to £142 and a pen of Beltex from R Challinor of Dilhorne at £141.
Mule lambs from Messrs Spooner of Macclesfield Forest sold up to £136 with Jacob lambs from David Marks of Newcastle topping at £129 and £125.
Oxford lambs from J Simpson & Sons of Grindon achieved a top price of £142 with Masham wether lambs from David Naylor of Glossop at £124.
The overall average achieved for store lambs was £107.16.
Breeding Sheep
A keen trade for breeding sheep which primarily contained Ewes with Lambs at Foot and In-Lamb Ewes, with In-Lamb Ewes selling up to £385 for ¾ bred Texel 2 and 3 crop ewes for JL Morris of Cresswell, being scanned in-lamb for twins to Texel, with others of a similar note from the same vendor at £375 and £355.
Mr Johnston of Biddulph Moor sold other Texel shearlings, scanned for twins to Beltex, for £365.
Pedigree Cheviot shearlings from Clive Hidderley of Ipstones, being scanned in lamb, sold up to £255. Ewes with lambs at foot sold up to £340 per family, for a pen of six Texel X Ewes from Trevor Ede of Stramshall with eight Texel lambs at foot, with a Suffolk ewe with two Texel lambs at foot from Mike Turner of Grindon realising up to £140 also. Three more Texel ewes with four Texel X lambs at foot, also from Trevor Ede of Stramshall, topped at £300.
