Store & Breeding Sheep Sale Report 9th December

A total entry of 2,786 Store Lambs and Breeding Ewes with the vast majority being Store Lambs, seeing 2,726 presented for sale with a total clearance. Trade was very similar to a fortnight ago with buyers continuing to attend from a wide area including Pembrokeshire and the Eastern Counties.

Strong Lambs were particularly well sold, seeing a top price of £119 for a pen of 26 Texels from B & K Stevenson of Derby, with other Texels, from Messrs Briand of Bagnall, up to £116.50, £115 from J B Rowlinson & Sons of Ramshorn and £113 from the same vendor.

Several other pens of Texels sold in excess of £100 with the average for Texels being £80.16, including a number of smaller sorts.

Blue Texels from J Henshaw of Fairfield sold up to £88 and £87 to average £83.57.

Charolais mixed Lambs, from Clive Grindey of Adlington, topped at £100, with Lambs from R Bassett & Son of Hulme End up to £95.50, to average £80.55.

Dorset Lambs, from E T Simpson of Waterfall, sold up to £112 with another pen at £105.50 with the average being £85.44.

Suffolk Lambs, from the Smith Family, sold up to £116, with another pen from C S Edge of Ballidon at £101 50 and £99 from Harvey Farms of Waterfall to average £77.59.

Mule Wether Lambs, from J A Lemon of Atlow, topped at £101.50.

There were a high proportion of smaller Lambs on offer this week with the average for all Store Lambs being £78.21.

Ewe Lambs

A small entry of breeding sheep, with Ewe Lambs topping at £116 for Texel Ewe Lambs from Messrs Briand of Bagnall.

Breeding Ewes

Breeding Ewes topped at £205 for 2 Shear Suffolk Ewes, having run with the Suffolk Ram since 29th September, from Pilkington Farms of Hartington, with 3 shear Texel Ewes, from June Sherratt of Meerbrook, at £122.
